So many artists, so many songs, so little time. Each week we review a handful of new albums (of all genres), round up even more new music that we’d call “indie,” and talk about what metal is coming out. We post music news, track premieres, and more all day. We update a playlist weekly of some of our current favorite tracks. Here’s a daily roundup with a bunch of interesting, newly released songs in one place.
GLIXEN – “LUST”
Rising shoegazers Glixen are gearing up for a new TBA EP and they’ve just followed their great recent single “foreversoon” with “lust.” It’s another promising taste and a great blend of heaviness and beauty.

PORCUPINE – “ARMY OF MARTYRS” & “HOLY COWRDS”
Porcupine have been dropping promising EPs and splits for a few years, and now the chaotic post-hardcore band are gearing up to release their debut full-length album this summer via New Morality Zine. Two singles are out now, and they’re both pretty damn vicious.

HEADIE ONE – “CRY NO MORE” (ft. STORMZY & TAY KEITH)
UK rapper Headie One has announced a new album, The Last One, due in June via Epic. New single “Cry No More” features fellow UK rap star Stormzy and Headie One says, “The video concept was to show people that everyone has struggles they have to deal with daily. That’s no different to myself and Stormzy, regardless of what people think we’ve achieved in our careers. We still have things in life we have to deal with like everyone else.”

BOLDY JAMES & RICHGAINS – “YOKOHAMA SLIM” (ft. MADEINTYO)
Boldy James and his Indiana Jones collaborator RichGains have teamed back up for another dose of cold, hardy, dusty boom bap revival.

GLOSS UP – “RIDE HOME” (ft. JACQUEES)
Gloss Up has announced a new EP, Not Ya Girl: Act 1, and the first single is a slow jam that teams her up with R&B singer Jacquees.

TEE GRIZZLEY – “SUFFER IN SILENCE”
Detroit rapper Tee Grizzley delivers his first single of 2024 with the fired-up trap of “Suffer In Silence.”

PUT PÙRANA / TROMBLON SPLIT
Two European screamo bands, Italy’s Put Pùrana and France’s Tromblon, have teamed up for a split EP. There’s three powerful tracks from Put Pùrana and one climactic, eight-minute song from Tromblon.

MYRIAM GENDRON – “TERRES BRÛLÉES”
“This song represented one of the biggest writing challenges I’ve ever faced,” Myriam Gendron says of “Terres brûlées” from her upcoming album Mayday. “Initially, I had a melody in my head. I came up with a chord progression that I played for days and days, humming my melody, unable to find the words. Obviously, I was dealing with a text in alexandrines. It’s a very intimidating form, associated in my mind with classical or romantic French poetry. I really couldn’t just say anything, I had to pull out all the stops, dare to be lyrical, pretend I was Baudelaire or Léo Ferré! And that’s what I did, letting the symbols take over. The additions of the guest musicians (Cédric Dind-Lavoie, Jim White, Marisa Anderson and Bill Nace) really enriched the song, which became a genuine soundscape. I’m not quite sure what the song’s about: I’d say there’s the idea of a ravaged landscape, a slightly post-apocalyptic atmosphere, but also a force of life that persists and seeks to express itself through the ruins of time. It is perhaps this force that has guided me over the past year. A few months after writing the song, the news of the fires ravaging Canada cast a different light on the lyrics. It seems that words always escape us.”

MIKE WATT & DAVID PAJO – SPLIT-7″
Mike Watt has a “one for one” singles series where he and a friend cover each other’s songs for a 7″ single. The latest is with David Pajo (Slint, Papa M) who covers Watt’s “Fireman Hurley” while Watt cover’s Papa M’s “Long May You Burn”

KINGS OF LEON – “NOTHING TO DO”
Can We Please Have Fun, Kings of Leon’s ninth album, is out in May, and they’ve given us another early taste with “Nothing To Do.”

BIG BLISS – “YOU’RE A MAN”
Brooklyn band Big Bliss are back with this outtake from last year’s Vital Return, the jangly, anthemic “You’re a Man.”

JOY OLADOKUN – “QUESTIONS, CHAOS, AND FAITH”
Joy Oladokun’s new single pays tribute to her childhood best friend.

ORCAS – “UNDER THE MILKY WAY” (THE CHURCH COVER)
Orcas (Rafael Anton Irisarri and Benoît Pioulard) are back with their first new music in a decade, an ethereal, transformative cover of The Church’s 1988 hit “Under the Milky Way.” The band will release their third album on Morr Music this summer.

NATHANIEL RATELIFF & THE NIGHT SWEATS – “HEARTLESS”
Nathaniel Rateliff & The Night Sweats announced their fourth album, South of Here, due out June 28 via Stax. The first single is “Heartless,” a heartland rock track.

CRAIG BENEDICT VALENTINE BADYNEE (PAS/CAL) – “THE NEW RICHTER WALTZ”
Craig Benedict Valentine Badynee, who you might know as Casimir Pascal who led early-’00s indiepop band Pas/Cal, is out of hibernation with a new single on Team Love. Good stuff!

RACHEL CHINOURIRI – “IT IS WHAT IT IS”
The latest single from London singer-songwriter Rachel Chinouriri’s debut album What A Devastating Turn of Events is “It Is What It Is.” “I was definitely in a petty mood,” she says. “It’s interesting because humans are full of flaws and I have the privilege of going through therapy, which has massively helped me with my self development journey. However, there are those moments where you want to be so petty because someone’s done you wrong. I’ve learned I’m responsible for how I allow men to treat me because they feel I’m worthless enough to be treated that way and it’s a big F U to them as I’ve not discovered how much I deserve. I just feel annoyed I never got to say what I wanted and that’s fine… I have this song instead and it is what it is :)”

INTO IT. OVER IT. – “BANDELIER”
Emo veterans Into It. Over It. have announced a new album, Interesting Decisions: Into It. Over It. Songs (2020 – 2023), and you can read about new single “Bandelier” here.
