So many artists, so many songs, so little time. Each week we review a handful of new albums (of all genres), round up even more new music that we’d call “indie,” and talk about what metal is coming out. We post music news, track premieres, and more all day. We update a playlist weekly of some of our current favorite tracks. Here’s a daily roundup with a bunch of interesting, newly released songs in one place.
JACQUEES GREENE & NOSAJ THING – “UNKNOWN”
Electronic wizards Jacquees Greene and Nosaj Thing have put their heads together for another dizzying collaboration, following “Too Close” ft. Ouri (2023) and “RB3” (2024).

ALISON GOLDFRAPP – “REVERBEROTIC”
Alison Goldfrapp’s second solo album, Flux, is out in August and here’s the second single. “Reverberotic” takes her signature glam-electro sound and adds woozy production courtesy Stefan Storm (The Sound of Arrows).

YAYA BEY – “RAISINS”
“It’s hard to sum up ‘raisins’ in a small burb but it’s the pursuit of love, joy and freedom with the full knowing that there will also be pain,” Yaya Bey says of the latest single off her new album Do It Afraid. “It’s a surrender. It’s me giving myself permission to dream. It might not happen. But maybe the real joy is not in the materialization but in the dreaming itself. The name is inspired by a Langston Hughes poem called Harlem where he says ‘What happens to a dream deferred? Does it dry up like a raisin in the sun?’”

ROBERT FORSTER (THE GO-BETWEENS) – “ALL OF THE TIME”
The Go-Betweens’ Robert Forster releases his new solo album Strawberries this week and here’s one more jangly taste before you get the whole bunch.

AVERY TUCKER – “BIG DROPS”
Avery Tucker, formerly half of Girlpool, has shared his debut solo single, “Big Drops,” which he co-produced with Alaska Reid.

FAZERDAZE – “MOTORWAY”
Fazerdaze says this new single captures “a feeling of being trapped between a city and a relationship, searching for home in both, but finding it in neither. It explores an enmeshment with familiarity; and the motorway becoming a symbol of that for me; repetitive, a loop to break out of, a false sense of freedom.” All that in a synthy dreampop wrapper.

MAL BLUM – “KILLER”
Mal Blum’s new album The Villain is out in July, and about the second single, “Killer,” they say, “I want to be very clear about what this song is about. The song ‘Killer’ is specifically about internalized transphobia and unconsciously absorbing the belief that you are bad. It is a response to the villainization of trans people, the propaganda and messaging we constantly receive that we are inherently devious and immoral. It also specifically refers to a particular flavor of transphobia that refuses to see transmasculine people as we are, instead considering us only as dangerous would-be assassins and butchers of our own supposed girlhoods. ‘Killer’ is a conscious attempt to reclaim and play with that narrative.”

MOLCHAT DOMA – “BELAYA POLOSA” (THE CRYSTAL METHOD * FUTURE FUNK SQUAD REMIX)
Bellarussian minimal wave group Molchat Doma get a bit less minimal when they hand over “Belaya Polosa” to electronica vets The Crystal Method.

MADELINE KENNEY – “SCOOP”
Madeline Kenney’s new album Kiss From the Balcony arrives in July, and she’s given us another preview with “Scoop.” “The original title was ‘Guitar Scoop Heart Flip’ because of the guitar melodies and lyrical themes; I was thinking a lot about what is expected of a ‘cool girl,’ how detachment is admired in modern relationships, and how the bathroom in a bar is a sacred space for girls (strangers!) to hold each other in their shared, odd, conditioned realities,” she says.

SAVAK – “AMERICAN VERNACULAR”
‘American Vernacular’ takes a look at modern cowboy culture in America and how it continues to permeate the presentation of identity, how we communicate, and our politics,” says SAVAK’s Sohrab Habibion of the band’s atmospheric new single. New album SQUAWK! is out next week.

DINOWALRUS – “DAY OF DOING NOTHING”
Brooklyn psych vets Dinowalrus are back with this appealing bit of groovy, widescream shoegaze.

MAXO – “DONAHOO’S CHICKEN”
SoCal rapper Maxo’s new album Mars Is Electric is approaching (due 6/20), and here’s another promising single to whet your appetite.

IGORRR – “BLASTBEAT FALAFEL” (ft. TREY SPRUANCE & TIMBA HARRIS)
French experimental metal band Igorrr team up with Trey Spruance (Mr. Bungle, Secret Chiefs 3), Trey’s SC3 bandmate Timba Harris, and a choir for a song that lives up to the title “Blastbeat Falafel.”

SAINTHOOD REPS – “BLUE NOTHING” (ft. STAND STILL’S GERRY WINDUS)
Long Island post-hardcore band Sainthood Reps signed to Smartpunk Records and released their first song since 2019’s “Burning Sheep,” which was their first song since their 2013 sophomore album Headswell. It features guest vocals from Gerry Windus of fellow Long Island band Stand Still. “We never even considered anyone else,” vocalist/guitarist Cesco Montesanto says. “Turns out, that was the right move because he smashed that part.”

TAGABOW – “AMERICAN FOOD”
Philly’s undefinable They Are Gutting A Body of Water have released a new single, “American Food,” and it marks their first release via the new partnership of TAGABOW leader Douglas Dulgarian’s label Julia’s War, Oakland label Smoking Room (home to multiple TAGABOW vinyl releases), and veteran label ATO Records. THE ARMED – “WELL MADE PLAY”
The Armed have announced a new album, The Future Is Here and Everything Needs to Be Destroyed, and lead single/opening track “Well Made Play” finds The Armed returning to vicious metallic hardcore in a way that they really haven’t done since their 2015 album Untitled. Read more about it here.

FOUR TET & WILLIAM TYLER – “IF I HAD A BOAT” (LYLE LOVETT COVER)
Four Tet (Kieran Hebden) and William Tyler teamed up back in 2023 for a 12″ on Sylvan Esso’s Psychic Hotline label. They’ve now made an album together, 41 Longfield Street Late ‘80s, which will be out September 19 via Temporary Residence Ltd. The first single is this 11-minute, spectral take on Lyle Lovett’s classic from 1988.

PAUL WELLER – “LAWDY ROLLA” (THE GUERRILLAS COVER) & “PINBALL” (BRIAN PROTHEROE COVER)
Paul Weller has announced a new album, Find El Dorado, which will be out July 25 via Parlophone. “These are songs I’ve carried with me for years,” Weller says. “They’ve taken on new shapes over time. And now felt like the moment to share them.” You can listen to two songs now: “Lawdy Rolla,” originally by French band The Guerrillas, and Brian Protheroe’s 1974 UK hit “Pinball.”
