So many artists, so many songs, so little time. Each week we review a handful of new albums (of all genres), round up even more new music that we’d call “indie,” and talk about what metal is coming out. We post music news, track premieres, and more all day. We update a playlist weekly of some of our current favorite tracks. Here’s a daily roundup with a bunch of interesting, newly released songs in one place.
LA PESTE – “I DON’T KNOW RIGHT FROM WRONG”
On April 17, 2026, Wharf Cat is releasing I Don’t Know Right From Wrong: Lost La Peste 1976-1979 Vol. 1, a compilation of previously unreleased recordings by La Peste, who have been called “Boston’s first punk band.” It comes with a book featuring contributions from members of Mission of Burma, Bush Tetras, The Cars, and more, and the first song to be released is “I Don’t Know Right From Wrong,” which was recorded during a 1978 session with The Cars’ Ric Ocasek. It comes with a video featuring archival live footage, and the whole thing is a very cool gem.

VALERIE JUNE – “ROLLIN’ AND TUMBLIN'”
About her new rendition of blues standard “Rollin’ and Tumblin’,” Valerie June says, ““Black Sabbath and Ozzy Osbourne’s dark, heavy metal sound was heavily influenced by the blues. As a multi-genre artist, I wanted to take this old standard and perform it with my banjo running through a super fuzzy electric guitar amp. Working with Matt Marinelli (producer, bass) and Andy Macleod (drums), we turned this song upside down and inside out. The heavy metal banjo breaks the chains that confine it to traditional forms by meeting rock and roll. The result is a fierce and wild reconstruction that is Ozzy-influenced and dedicated to his memory.”

GENA (LIV.E & KARRIEM RIGGINS) – “CIRCLESZ”
GENA is a new collaborative project from Liv.e and Karriem Riggins, and their debut single is the neo-soul jam “Circlesz.”

THE FORMAT – “SHOT IN THE DARK”
The Format’s first album since 2006, Boycott Heaven, is out in January, is out in January, and they’ve given us another preview with the anthemic “Shot in the Dark.”

SUPERCHUNK – “I DON’T WANT TO GET OVER YOU” (MAGNETIC FIELDS COVER)
Superchunk have a new 7″ featuring covers on both sides: Magnetic Fields’ 69 Love Songs classic “I Don’t Wanna Get Over You” and “I Don’t Want You Anyway” by ’80s NZ band Look Blue Go Purple. Superchunk successfully transform the former into a Superchunk song.

AUSTRA – “FALLEN CLOUD”
Austra’s first album since 2020, Chin Up Buttercup, is out this Friday, and she’s shared a final advance single ahead of its release, “Fallen Cloud.” “I didn’t realize until long after this song was finished, Fallen Cloud is a song that takes place during the bargaining stage of grief,” she says. “It begins with a desperate attempt to change an undesired romantic outcome, but after spending a bit too much time imagining different scenarios, I become enveloped by the dream-like fantasy of an alternate life. This song is meant to make you feel like you’re floating in a sweet cloud of delusion.”

TŌTH – “NOT BROKEN”
Rubblebucket’s Andrew Tōth has announced new solo album, And The Voice Said, which will be out February 27 via Northern Spy. The album was co-produced by Caroline Rose and features Gotye collaborator, Kimbra. “I wrote this as a message to myself: a response to my darkest feelings about life,” Tōth says of “Not Broken,” the album’s first single. “I may not show it outwardly, but my default is to be a pretty fucking negative guy. So I selfishly wrote a song that would hopefully help me feel a little better from time to time. ‘Please take me to my body / I wanna be somebody / And the voice said…you’re not broken…you’re just lost in emotions.’ This video is part documentary and part narrative. We spent 4-5 days out there talking to people and singing and dancing with them.”

SEAROWS – “PHOTOGRAPH OF A CYCLONE”
Searows’ new album Death in the Business of Whaling is out in January, and the latest single is “Photograph of a Cyclone.” “When I initially started writing this song I went into it without a real intention of what I was trying to say,” he says. “It was one of those songs for me where I didn’t know what it meant until after it was finished, which occasionally happens when I write. This song is about repeating cycles you learned from your surroundings or culture, and feeling incapable of doing anything different. It’s about witnessing chaos in your world and in your periphery and not knowing what else to do but watch it happen. Sometimes you can create art from that chaos. But you aren’t sure if the creation in itself is a new perspective or understanding, or simply a picture of it.”

JANA HORN – “GO ON, MOVE YOUR BODY”

FELSMANN + TILEY – OPIOID (FT. PET DEATHS)
German synth-duo Felsmann + Tiley will release new album Protomensch on February 13 via Mute and here is an early taste via this teutonic banger featuring Pet Deaths. They say: “We use and we abuse. We create and we destroy. Others and ourselves. Our medication is also our poison. We know it’s stupid, but we can’t help it. To clarify, It’s not just about drugs – it’s about every form of addictive self-soothing and self-destruction we engage in, from consumerism and work to digital validation.”

ROBYN – “DOPAMINE”
Robyn is back with her first new solo music in seven years. She’s now signed to Young — home of FKA twigs, recent collaborator Jamie xx, Sampha and more — and her new single “Dopamine” was made with longtime collaborator Klas Åhlund. It’s just the kind of euphoric, anthemic banger Robyn does so well.

SHARON VAN ETTEN – “2000 MILES” (THE PRETENDERS COVER)
Sharon Van Etten’s festive new cover is from the soundtrack to Amazon’s upcoming film Oh. What. Fun., which features lots of renditions of holiday classics from indie rock artists. Read more about it here.

MARLON MAGNÉE (LA FEMME) – “NUAGE GRIS”
Fans of French band La Femme will fine cofounder Marlon Magnée in familiar territory with the zippy mix of new wave, early rock n’ roll and ’60 francophone pop on his debut solo single. Marlon says it’s “a song about life’s ups and downs, encouraging listeners to chase away the grey clouds looming overhead.”

MARIA SOMERVILLE – “STONEFLY (SEEFEEL REMIX),” “PROJECTIONS (COLLE REMIX),” “UP (FATSHAUDI REMIX)”
Maria Somerville has announced an EP of remixes of songs from this year’s lovely, ethereal Luster, and it will be out January 21 via 4AD. It features Boris, Seefeel, YHWH Nailgun, colle (Maya McGrory of Chanel Beads), Asa Nisi Masa, and Fatshaudi. Check out three of the six remixes now.

DAPHNI (CARIBOU’S DAN SNAITH) – “WAITING SO LONG” & “LUCKY”
Caribou‘s Dan Snaith has announced the first album from his Daphni alter ego in over three years. It’s titled Butterfly and will be out February 6 via Jiaolong. Here are two songs from it.

MANDY, INDIANA – “MAGAZINE”
Manchester, UK-based band Mandy, Indiana return with their sophomore album ‘URGH’ on February 6 and this is the visceral first single.

POPPY – “BRUISED SKY”
Poppy has announced her next album, Empty Hands, due January 23 via Sumerian. Along with the announcement comes the alt-metal anthem “Bruised Sky,” and you can also pick up one of two exclusive vinyl variants in the BV shop.

MX LONELY – “BIG HIPS”
Shoegazy New York indie rockers Mx Lonely have signed to TAGABOW leader Douglas Dulgarian’s label Julia’s War Recordings, and they announced a new album, All Monsters, due January 20. You can read more about lead single “Big Hips” here.
