So many artists, so many songs, so little time. Each week we review a handful of new albums (of all genres), round up even more new music that we’d call “indie,” and talk about what metal is coming out. We post music news, track premieres, and more all day. We update a playlist weekly of some of our current favorite tracks. Here’s a daily roundup with a bunch of interesting, newly released songs in one place.
VOIVOD WITH JG THIRLWELL – “ZERO ZERO UFO” (RAMONES COVER)
Magnetic Eye Records is gearing up to release two Ramones tribute albums, one of their 1976 self-titled debut album and one with a career-spanning selection of songs. The latter includes sci-fi psych-prog-thrashers Voivod and experimental wiz JG Thirlwell (aka Foetus) putting their weirdo spin on “Zero Zero UFO” from 1989’s Brain Drain.
“While we could have recorded any of their songs, I’ve always dreamed of playing ‘Zero Zero UFO,’ Voïvod drummer Michel “Away” Langevin told Rolling Stone. “I was so excited about the opportunity that I might have played it a bit fast, making it challenging for [vocalist] Snake and Jim [Thirlwell] to fit every word in. Fortunately, Marc [Urselli, who assembled the comp]’s production really makes the track shine, and we’re thrilled with the final result.”

SEXYY RED – “HOOCHIE COOCHIE”
Sexyy Red has been on fire lately, and this fired-up banger is no exception.

PINKPANTHERESS – “TONIGHT” (ft. PANIC AT THE DISCO SAMPLE)
PinkPantheress has a new single out called “Tonight” and it samples Panic! At The Disco’s “Do You Know What I’m Seeing?” from their divisive, Beatlesque sophomore album Pretty. Odd.

THE MARÍAS – “BACK TO ME” & “NOBODY NEW”
Ahead of a run of shows this spring, The Marías have shared two new singles, the long-teased “Back to Me” and a b-side, “Nobody New.” “‘Back to me’ was written a couple months after Submarine was complete,” vocalist María Zardoya says. “We were jamming in the studio as a band, and the guys were experimenting with some new synth sounds and ominous chords. I immediately went into the vocal booth, and the melody and lyrics came to me faster than any other song. It felt like divine intervention. After finishing it, it felt like the start of a new era beyond Submarine. Consider it an introduction to a new world. Submarine dealt with the raw emotions of going through a heartbreak right after it happened. ‘Back to me’ is what comes after – the breakup actually happens when an ex moves on to someone new. It deals with the emotions that come along with that. Even though in the end you may not want them back at all, in the moment, that’s all you want to relieve the pain.”

LIL YACHTY – “CAN’T BE CRETE BOY” (ft. VEEZE)
Lil Yachty continues showing off his love of the Michigan rap scene by recruiting Veeze for “Can’t Be Crete Boy,” an appealing fusion of chipmunk soul and trap.

HAIM – “EVERYBODY’S TRYING TO FIGURE ME OUT”
Haim follow their recent single “Relationships” with another new track, “Everybody’s trying to figure me out.” “This next song we will be releasing is my favorite song we’ve written in the last couple years,” Danielle says. “Writing it has gotten me through some hard times, and we felt this might be of some use to get our vibes right for this summer! I started writing this after a panic attack I had the night I got home from tour. I was very confused because I was SO SO SO happy about our incredible tour, but something about being alone with myself scared the shit out of me. after a lot of reflecting I realized I’ve let a lot of people try and tell me how I should live my life, but I realized in making everyone else happy, I lost myself. I wrote this as a way to believe in myself again and quit being scared to do what I want. I hope this finds anyone who needs it.”

PISS ME OFF – “SLIDE THE SHELL”
Piss Me Off is a great name for a punk band. And they live up to their name as they get fast and loose on the Motorhead-infused hardcore of “Slide the Shell,” the first single from the Cleveland band’s upcoming LP Debt With The World. It drops April 25 via Delayed Gratification.

COUNTING CROWS – “UNDER THE AURORA”
Counting Crows have unveiled another track, the upbeat “Under the Aurora,” off their eighth album, Butter Miracle, The Complete Sweets!, which is out next month.

KADAVAR – “REGENERATION”
Kavadar share a dose of heavy psych rock off their upcoming album I Just Want To Be A Sound, due May 16 via Clouds Hill.

KATE TEAGUE – “CANDLES”
Kate Teague has shared her second new single of the year, “Candles,” a dreamy indie rock track with harmonies from Lou Turner. “Drove over to Dauphin Island, AL — where I spent a lot of time growing up — with my dad to make this video,” she says.

HEART ATTACK MAN – “JOYRIDE THE PALE HORSE”
Cleveland punks Heart Attack Man have shared the title track of their upcoming album Joyride the Pale Horse, and this one shows off their slightly calmer side.

MILEY CYRUS – “END OF THE WORLD”
The third single off Miley Cyrus’ new single has co-writing and co-producing credits from Alvvays’ Molly Rankin and Alec O’Hanley. Read more about it here.

CLUB 8 – “LET IT ALL FLY”
Club 8 one of the many musical projects of Labrador Records founder Johan Angergård (The Legends, Acid House Kings). “Let it All Fly” is a lovely big of shoegaze.

NILS FRAHM – “CANTON”
Composer Nils Frahm is following up last year’s Day EP with Night which will be out May 9 via Leiter. Both are delicate piano works and this is the closing track.

NITE MUSIC – “NEVER LET YOU GO”
Brooklyn’s Nite Music are back with this new single — “Never Let You Go” is a nice chunk of ’90s-style heartland indie rock.

SAVAK – “NO MAN’S ISLAND”
SAVAK, who celebrate their 10th anniversary this year, have announced their seventh album, SQUAWK!, which will be out May 30 via Ernest Jenning Record Co / Peculiar Works. The first single is the Stonesy and very catchy “No Man’s Island.”
HAILEY WHITTERS – “HIGH ON A HEARTBREAK”
Iowa-born, Nashville-based country singer Hailey Whitters has announced a new album, Corn Queen, along with the release of its third single. Read more here.
