So many artists, so many songs, so little time. Each week we review a handful of new albums (of all genres), round up even more new music that we’d call “indie,” and talk about what metal is coming out. We post music news, track premieres, and more all day. We update a playlist weekly of some of our current favorite tracks. Here’s a daily roundup with a bunch of interesting, newly released songs in one place.
CHAT PILE – “FUNNY MAN”
Chat Pile have shared another taste of their anticipated sophomore album Cool World, and it’s an especially gnarly one that vocalist Raygun Busch says is about “being a servant, indentured or otherwise. I hate having to explain the content of these songs, because I want it to mean whatever it needs to mean to those listening, but essentially it concerns illusion vs reality in regards to America and war.”

KATIE GAVIN – “INCONSOLABLE”
“Inconsolable” is the fiddle-warmed, harmony-laden latest single from Katie Gavin of MUNA’s debut solo album, What a Relief. It’s out next month on Phoebe Bridgers’ Saddest Factory Records.

TRAUMA RAY – “SPECTRE”
Texas shoegazers Trauma Ray have given us another taste of their debut album for Dais Records, Chameleon, and it’s a fine offering of woozy, wall-of-sound delicacy.

SPRINTS – “FEAST”
“Pulling from our love of grunge and gothic, ‘Feast’ is named as such because it explores the idea of gluttony, consumption and desire, particularly when it comes to sexuality and romance,” Sprints say of their new single. “In Ireland a lot of our first conscious experience of storytelling happens to be religious, due in most parts to the interlinking of our Catholic Church and state, particularly in education. The Bible stories and fables of good, bad, morality and sin were always pressed upon us. I thought it was interesting to use this iconography and imagery reimagined in a queer context. ‘Feast’ is dark, gothic and sensual, encouraging us to unapologetically pursue our wants and desires.”

SOULKEEPER – “TIME OUT OF MIND”
If you like chaotic, theatrical, 2000s-style metalcore, you should keep your eyes on Minnesota band Soulkeeper. They just signed to Pure Noise for a re-release of their self-released 2023 debut album Holy Design, and along with the announcement comes a video for “Time Out of Mind.”

URIKA’S BEDROOM – “CIRCLE GAMES”
Big Smile, Black Mire, the debut album from urika’s bedroom, is due out on November 1 via True Panther, and the first single is the hazy “Circle Games,” which the Los Angeles-based artist describes as “post-war everything.”

LINKIN PARK – “HEAVY IS THE CROWN”
Linkin Park have shared the second single from their first album with new singer Emily Armstrong, From Zero, and this one’s also the “official anthem and music video” for the 2024 League of Legends World Championship Anthem.

LAURA MARLING – “CHILD OF MINE”
Patterns in Repeat, Laura Marling’s eighth album, is out in a month, and she’s given us another preview with “Child of Mine,” which she says was written while “bouncing my daughter in her bouncer when she was four weeks old. I hadn’t sat down to write. It’d been a while since I’d picked up the guitar, just to pass the time, so maybe that did the trick. I wrote the lullaby soon after and thought ‘OK, maybe I could make a record this year'”

PEDRO THE LION – “B” (LYNC COVER)
Pedro the Lion and surviving members of the beloved, short-lived ’90s post-hardcore/indie/emo band Lync (who gave their sole album an expanded reissue last year) are releasing a split 7″ on November 1 via Suicide Squeeze, featuring Pedro the Lion’s just-released cover of Lync’s “B” backed by the original Lync song. “Lync struck me as so mysterious and infectious when I first listened in the ’90s, three humans writing and playing at the edge of their collective consciousness,” David Bazan says, “and listening again now, that feeling has grown exponentially.”

VICTIME – “RÉSONNE ENCORE”
“At first, we built an arrangement around a long and noisy synth take; finding the proper guidelines to make it into a song took a bit of work,” VICTIME say of “Résonne encore,” their new single. “In the end, we are happy with the result: the first love tune ever written by Laurence.” This is from the Montreal band’s new album En conversation avec that’s out October 25 via Mothland.

CONGRATULATIONS – “ICE TEA”
Brighton, UK band congratulations have signed to Bella Union and will release new EP Slap on October 11. First single “Ice Tea” recalls the hedonistic days of sassy, saucy ’00s rock.

LIAM BENZVI – “2N4”
Liam Benzvi’s new album …And His Splash Band is out this Friday on Fat Possum, and he’s shared a final advance single, “2N4.” “‘2N4’ is an earworm I’ve been playing on the piano for over 5 years,” he says. “Of all the songs on the record, it feels the most ingrained in my sense memory. And it’s the poppiest song on the record. It’s meant to be kind of like if Cornelius produced George Michael’s ‘Amazing.’ I like where my voice sits in it. I’m grateful to my band, and my production and compositional partners Nightfeelings, Henry Solomon and Billy Lemos.”

BLACK FONDUE – “ANOTHER DOMESTIC”
London-based rapper and producer Black Fondu just released his second single, “Another Domestic,” which crackles with twitchy

JULIE CHRISTMAS – “THE ASH”
Julie Christmas shared a new video for “The Ash” from this year’s fantastic Ridiculous and Full of Blood. “Girls dancing for hours, boys in masks gathering imaginary hordes of minions, neighbors, friends and family in a steady stream; sweat, muscle, blood, tears and fairy lights,” she says of the video. “Just like the song itself, ‘The Ash’ video is a deeply personal glimpse into each of the lives of the band. Derrick Belcham helped us capture the beautiful, powerful people around us in glimpses that remind us that individuality deserves, at the very least, a flashing moment of celebration.”

REAL ESTATE – “DANIEL” (ELTON JOHN COVER)
Real Estate have been covering Elton John’s “Daniel” on tour this year — their current album is also called Daniel — and now they’ve recorded a studio version.

SILVERBACKS – “SOMETHING I KNOW”
Dublin band Silverbacks will return with their third album, Easy Being A Winner, on October 18 and new single leans dancey with a choreography-filled video to back it up.

NAIMA BOCK – “MOVING”
Naima Bock’s second album is out this Friday via Sub Pop and here’s one last early taste.

CANDY – “FOOTBALL”
Candy announced a new EP, Flipping, due in October via Triple B, and the first single is the 58-second “Football.” Read more here.
