So many artists, so many songs, so little time. Each week we review a handful of new albums (of all genres), round up even more new music that we’d call “indie,” and talk about what metal is coming out. We post music news, track premieres, and more all day. We update a playlist weekly of some of our current favorite tracks. Here’s a daily roundup with a bunch of interesting, newly released songs in one place.
GIRL RAY – HOLD TIGHT (JOSHUA IDEHEN VERSION)
Today marks the one year anniversary of Girl Ray’s fantastic third album, Prestige, and to celebrate the band have shared this major rework of “Hold Tight” by Joshua Idehen. He says, “I’m just a massive fan of Girl Ray over here (probably account for half their plays in Sweden, easy) so getting a chance to reinterpret one of their songs was too exciting to pass. And as my first remix, I’m pretty chuffed. Ludvig (the producer and bandmate) knew from the moment we heard the original we were going to make a ’90s era rave-y number like you’d find on pop singles back with… but with a poem.”

THANK YOU THANK YOU – “WATCHING THE CYCLONES”
Tyler Bussey (formerly of Strange Ranger, TWIABP, Bad HEaven Ltd) has shared his first new Thank You Thank You music since their 2-song 2021 single. Bussey says it’s “about heartbreak and minor league baseball games in the summertime.”

SPIRIT NIGHT – “DARKER NOW”
Spirit Night (led by another former TWIABP member, Dylan Balliett) announced a new album, Time Won’t Tell, due out on October 4, and shared the first single, “Darker Now.”

BOLDY JAMES, HARRY FRAUD, & TEE GRIZZLEY – “CECIL FIELDER”
Having already released albums with Nicholas Craven and Conductor Williams this year, Boldy James has announced a collaborative album with Harry Fraud, titled The Bricktionary, that will be out before summer’s end. Until we get full details, here’s the first single featuring Tee Grizzly.

GEORGE DANIEL – “SCREEN CLEANER”
George Daniel of The 1975 has shared his first solo single, blippy electronic track “Screen Cleander,” which was co-written with Tove Lo.

ABBEY BLACKWELL – “NEXT TIME”
Seattle artist Abbey Blackwell will release her sophomore album Big Black Motion on September 13. “Next Time” is a lovely slice of folky indie rock with a lush atmosphere and just a little ragged edge.

MAXWELL – “SIMPLY BEAUTIFUL” ( AL GREEN COVER)
Ahead of his fall tour with Jazmine Sullivan, Maxwell has shared a studio version of a song he’s often covered live, Al Green’s “Simply Beautiful.”

MELT BANANA – “STOPGAP”
Here’s another mind (and banana) melting new song from Japanese noise rock greats Melt Banana’s first album in 11 years.

THE OFFSPRING – “LIGHT IT UP”
The Offspring’s new album Supercharged comes out in October, and they’ve shared another single from it, “Light It Up,” which Dexter Holland says is “a full speed ahead juggernaut!”

JÓNSI – “UNDERCURRENT”
Jónsi has shared a second track, the ethereal “Undercurrent,” from his new album First Light, which was originally conceived as a score for a video game.

DOECHII – “NISSAN ALTIMA”
Doechii calls herself the “hip-hop Madonna” and “the trap Grace Jones,” on her new single “Nissan Altima.” The video features cameos from Jay Rock, Ab-Soul and Isaiah Rashad.

J.R.C.G. – GRIM ICONIC…(SADISTIC MANTRA)
Justin R. Cruz Gallego, who you may know from Seattle band Dreamdecay, has been making hazy post-punk-inspired music on his own as J.R.C.G. for nearly a decade, with releases on John Dwyer’s Castle Face and Iron Lung. He’s now signed to Sub Pop and just released his trippy first album for the big indie.

FLO – “CHECK”
Following their Lollapalooza set on Thursday, FLO shared “Check,” which they call “a lover girl anthem! It’s a refreshing take on relationships for us and is different from anything we’ve released in the past. It comes from a softer, happier and more loving place. It feels great to all be in relationships, so it only felt right to drop a lovergirl anthem for the summer.”

RAZORLIGHT – “SCARED OF NOTHING”
UK indie band Razorlight are back after an extended hiatus and will release Planet Nowhere, which is the first album for 16 years featuring the band’s “classic” line-up of lead vocalist Johnny Borrell, guitarist Björn Ågren, bassist Carl Dalemo, and drummer Andy Burrows. Here’s the first single.

A$AP ROCKY – “HIGHJACK” FT. JESSICA PRATT
A$AP Rocky’s new single features vocals from Jessica Pratt and Jon Batiste, and you can read more about it here.

MARK LANEGAN BAND – “HEARD A TRAIN”
“Heard a Train” is one of the many previously unreleased songs on the 20th anniversary edition of Mark Lanegan’s Bubblegum.

Opeth announced their first new album since 2019, and shared the first single, death growls included, which you can read more about here.

SOPHIE POWERS – “OBSESSED (GRIMES DJ EDIT)”
Grimes played her remix of Sophie Powers’ “Obsessed” at a couple of festivals earlier this year, and it’s now officially out as Powers begins her tour.
