19 New Songs Out Today

So many artists, so many songs, so little time. Each week we review a handful of new albums (of all genres), round up even more new music that we’d call “indie,” and talk about what metal is coming out. We post music news, track premieres, and more all day. We update a playlist weekly of some of our current favorite tracks. Here’s a daily roundup with a bunch of interesting, newly released songs in one place.

CARIBOU – “BROKE MY HEART” CHAMPION & HARRY HAYES REMIXES

Caribou released great new single “Broke My Heart” last month and now here are two highly requested remixed, one by Champion (which Caribou and Four Tet played at their Coachella set) and the ohter by Harry Hayes.

THE SOFTIES – “CALIFORNIA HIGHWAY 99”

It’s true that a heart can break in the time it takes to drive from one city to the next,” says Rose Melberg of The Softies’ new single. “So sometimes you just have to keep driving.” The Softies’ first album in 24 years is out August 23.

SARAH KINSLEY – “STARLING”

“The ‘Starling’ music video was made for and by close friends in my life,” Sarah Kinsley says of the latest single off her debut album Escaper. “My co-director, Chloë, and I wanted to capture the temporality of love, the fleeting magic of love through the medium of ice. We can see love in the ice between palms, balanced between foreheads, and eventually – in dancing in what is inevitably left of a bygone love: rain. It was an incredible experience to create this visual piece, in all of its soaked, shimmering glory.”

CORNERSHOP – “DOUBLE DENIM

UK indie vets Cornershop have made a new version of their 2018 single “Double Denim Nights” now with vocals by Italian indie film star Rosanna. The video is fun.

LUNA LI – “GOLDEN HOUR”

Luna Li’s new album When a Thought Grows Wings arrives in August, and she’s shared another advance track from it, “Golden Hour.” “”I wanted this song to feel soft and sensual, while also peeking into a psychedelic world,” she says. “‘Golden Hour’ tells the story of an afternoon I spent with someone a couple of years ago in a meadow sitting six feet apart, drenched in rain water and uncertainty, but having a wonderful time experiencing a slow descent into love.”

THE THE – “LINOLEUM SMOOTH TO THE STOCKINGED FOOT”

Matt Johnson will release the first The The album in nearly 25 years on September 6 and here’s the second single which features a video by the band’s longtime collaborator Tim Pope.

EARTHBURNER – “PERMANENT DAWN” & “SLAVES TO THE SCREEN”

Earthburner was first launched by Broken Hope guitarist Jeremy Wagner in the early 2000s when BH was going on hiatus, they recorded material in the early 2010s but then put the band on hold when BH re-activated in 2012, and then finally released the 2012 EP in 2016 before going away again. Jeremy then re-activated the band earlier this year with a new lineup including Sanguisugabogg’s Devin Swank on vocals, Broken Hope’s Mike Miczek on drums, Gloryhole Guillotine’s Tyler Affinito on bass, and Napalm Death’s Mitch Harris as an “honorary member” and side vocalist, and that lineup is now set to release the first-ever Earthburner album, Permanent Down, on November 8 via M-Theory Audio. It features guest vocals from Immolation’s Ross Dolan (on opening track “Necrodisiac”) and Vixen Maw’s Jake Cannavale (on the album closing cover of C.O.C.’s “Positive Outlook”), and two of its gnarly death-grind songs are out now: the title track and “Slaves to the Screen.”

VOXTROT – “ESPRIT DE CŒUR”
