So many artists, so many songs, so little time. Each week we review a handful of new albums (of all genres), round up even more new music that we’d call “indie,” and talk about what metal is coming out. We post music news, track premieres, and more all day. We update a playlist weekly of some of our current favorite tracks. Here’s a daily roundup with a bunch of interesting, newly released songs in one place.
GAY MEAT – “LYCHEE ICE”
Gay Meat (aka Karl Kuehn of Museum Mouth) has shared new single “Lychee Ice,” and it’s a delightfully fuzzed-out power pop song delivered in the distinct, unique way that only Karl can.

PARADIME – “PERIOD.”
Veteran Detroit rapper Paradime has announced a new album, PERIOD., due September 22 via Mello Music Group. The first single/title track finds Paradime spitting fire over some organic, percussive piano.

RESAVOIR – “INSIDE MINDS”
Will Miller’s experimental project Resavoir have shared their first new song since their 2019 debut album, and it’s a lovely instrumental piece that pulls from bossa nova, Balearic beat, and more.

MARY JANE DUNPHE – “ALWAYS GONNA BE THE SAME”
Mary Jane Dunphe, who has upcoming dates with Angel Du$t and Fiddlehead (and sings on the upcoming Angel Du$t album), has shared a song off her new album Stage of Love. It’s a propulsive goth-pop song fueled by Mary’s powerful, soaring voice.

BETHANY COSENTINO – “NATURAL DISASTER”
Best Coast’s Bethany Cosentino releases her debut solo album, Natural Disaster, this Friday, and ahead of that she’s shared its title track. “Natural Disaster was absolutely the easiest song on the album to write,” she says. “Producer and songwriter Suzy Shinn sent me an instrumental track, and the moment I heard it, I ran to my music room and wrote this. It was one of those songs that felt like it was just waiting to come out of me. The message is very clear: I had been thinking a lot about the energy of the summer of 2020 in particular. Political upheaval, protests against police brutality, wildfires throughout the state of California, and other Natural Disasters around the globe. That chaotic energy was palpable on planet earth. The song is meant to serve as a commentary on the way we as humans go about our business as the world around us crumbles and literally burns. Thinking about the way our planet is changing is wildly anxiety-producing, but it’s very real, so I hope this song can call attention to it while also giving people something to sing along to.”

SLOW PULP – “DOUBT”
“In my process to fight against self-deprecation, I found this strange new pattern popping up where I fished for critiques from others,” Slow Pulp lead singer Emily Massey says of their new album Yard. “I wanted people close to me to validate the things I hated about myself. Self-doubt had found a home in me, it felt safer to stay in this familiar negative space than to like myself. I thought if others shared that with me I wouldn’t have to do the work to change.”

PIP BLOM – “KISS ME BY THE CANDLELIGHT” (FT PERSONAL TRAINER)
“Long before Willem (from Personal Trainer) and I started seeing each other we had written a song together,” says Pip Blom of this new single featuring Personal Trainer. “We were 16 and barely knew one another. It was uncomfortable and we were both really shy. but I’ve always really really liked the track. Over the years we’ve been writing stuff on and off. It wasn’t always easy cause both have very different ways of working and aren’t really used to writing with someone else, but we’ve managed to write some of my favorite songs together. It’s funny how there are always parts in the tracks that we’ve made together that are written for the other person. Melodies, sounds or rhythms, you know what the other person likes, and want them to like what you write. So when Dave asked me if I’d ever thought about writing a track with Willem I didn’t have to think long. “Kiss Me By the Candlelight” was a song we had written not that long ago. It was a perfect fit for the album. It’s danceable, a bit quirky, and a perfect blend of the two of us.” Pip Blom’s new album Bobbie will be out October 20 via Heavenly.

MY VIOLENCE – “HARLOT”
Silvia Ryder of Sugarplum Fairies is making music these days as My Violence and will release their self-titled debut album on October 6. First single “Harlot” depicts “a young woman’s bipolar dance between small town ingenuity and treacherous femme fatale maneuvers.”

CROOKS & NANNIES – “COUNTRY BAR”
“I started to write this song during a budding romance,” Crooks & Nannies vocalist and guitarist Max Rafter says. “There were so many secret unspoken feelings. It felt exciting, and I wanted more. I could only meet them as far as they were willing to go. I thought that if I put in enough work, things would click into place. I thought if I wanted something hard enough, there was no reason it couldn’t happen. It’s about being blinded by love, zoomed in, and hopeful. Knowing it won’t work but trying so hard anyway. I’ve always been a person who wants to fix relationships that aren’t working rather than walk away, at times to my own detriment. ‘Country Bar’ hits on those themes, looking with rose colored glasses at a relationship.” It’s from their new album Real Life.

WOODS – “ANOTHER SIDE” & “WEEP”
Woods have shared two more songs from their upcoming album, Perennial, that show off different sides of the band: “Another Side” lets loose a little fury with feedback and wild organ, while “Weep” hypnotizes against a motorik beat.

BLACK GRAPE – “MILK” & “PIMP WARS”
Black Grape, the long-running UK band led by Shuan Ryder (Happy Mondays) and rapper Kermit, have announced their fourth album, Orange Head, which will be out November 3 via DGAFF Recordings. It’s their first since 2017’s Pop Voodoo which in turn was their first in 20 years. Check out two songs now.

GOLD DIME – “WASTED WANTED”
Gold Dime, aka Talk Normal’s Andrya Ambro, is back with third album No More Blue Skies in October. The first single is intense, with blasts of noise and guttural wailing. “The song is about the struggle of pursuing a direct line of communication in an insufficient world,” says Ambro.

SEXTILE – “NEW YORK”
L.A. darkwave/post-punk Sextile have signed to Sacred Bones, who will release their new album, Push, on September 15. The new single is “New York,” a high energy acid house / techno banger that Melissa Scaduto says was “written as a dedication to my former home and birthplace. Cause New Yorkers are really tough, but their love goes crazy.”

SERRATION – “SHROUD OF GNARLED TONGUES”
Canadian metalcore band Serration have announced a new album, Simulations Of Hell, and they’ve shared new single “Shroud Of Gnarled Tongues.” Read about it here.

WORRIERS – “TOP 5”
“Top 5” is the anthemic second single off Worriers’ upcoming LP Trust Your Gut. “‘Top 5′ is a song that emerged from writing while isolated in the spring of 2020. I wanted to capture the feeling of internal turmoil when we were burdened with myriad reasons to be angry and sad simultaneously,” says Worriers’ Lauren Denitzio.

PATIO – “SIXPENCE”
Brooklyn-bred trio Patio returned today with the announcement of sophomore LP Collection and great new single “Sixpence.” The band say, “It’s about false identities — how money helps us create illusions that affect how others perceive us, and how we perceive ourselves. Inspired by Roxy Music, David Bowie, and the lethargic boredom that remains when ambition is thwarted by apathy.”

THE KILLS – “NEW YORK” & “LA HEX”
The Kills released double single “New York”/”LA Hex” today, marking their first new music in nearly seven years. Both songs are impactful, guided by Alison Mosshart’s cool vocals.

SAMANTHA URBANI – “ONE DAY AT A TIME”
Samantha Urbani, the former vocalist of Friends, announced her debut solo LP today with funky synthpop single “One Day At A Time.”
