So many artists, so many songs, so little time. Each week we review a handful of new albums (of all genres), round up even more new music that we’d call “indie,” and talk about what metal is coming out. We post music news, track premieres, and more all day. We update a playlist weekly of some of our current favorite tracks. Here’s a daily roundup with a bunch of interesting, newly released songs in one place.
THURSTON MOORE – “THE DIVER”
Sonic Youth’s Thurston Mooer releases Flow Critical Lucidity in a month and has just released its closing track. “‘The Diver’ ends the album with the actual story of a diver lost underwater in Lake Geneva while these songs were being written,” says Thurston. “The diver was exploring the deep, researching a world at mercy to human disruption, only to be found days later, his life having succumbed to the wild. The song concludes the album, a repetitive piano figure like a call, a ringing, an alarm of melody.”

PIXIES – “OYSTER BEDS”
Frank Black describes Pixies’ new single “Oyster Beds” as “a laundry list of things I was painting over the last couple years. I took up painting again when we were recording at Rockfield, and I didn’t stop.” The band’s new album The Night the Zombies Came is out October 25.

UV-TV – “THE OPTIMISTIC WRENCH”
Brooklyn band UV-TV will release The Optimistic Wrench EP, their first music in a couple years, on October 11. “We wrote most of the record while playing with an Omni chord and recording sonic experiments using a Farfisa organ and broken synthesizers as our palette,” says frontperson Rose Vastola. The title track eschews post-punk for playful pop.

KATE PIERSON (B-52S) – “TAKE ME BACK TO THE PARTY”
“I wanted this song to connect with B-52s fans,” says Kate Pierson. “It’s a disco song that conjures a younger Kate back in the day when I just couldn’t wait to get into clubs. It takes me back to my Party Girl past!” Kate’s new album Radio and Rainbows is out September 20.

AMYTHYST KIAH – “I WILL NOT GO DOWN” FT. BILLY STRINGS
Amythyst Kiah’s new album Still + Bright comes out in October, and she’s shared another new single, a powerful folk track featuring Billy Strings. “From Avatar: The Last Airbender to Lord of the Rings to Mass Effect, I’ve always loved a great heros journey,” Amythyst says. “The hero always rides into the unknown to seek answers and destroy a larger beast. These stories emphasize the importance of reflection, resilience, and restraint. Sometimes we have to ride into the unknown to seek these answers and see what were truly made of, without stopping to think that perhaps the beast that we are slaying, is in fact ourselves. I was incredibly stoked to have Billy Strings join in on this track and take us on his own journey, creating the most radiant guitar tapestry that could blind any foe that dares to cross him.”

THE TELESCOPES – “FOR THE RIVER MAN”
Long-running UK psych/shoegaze group The Telescopes will release their 17th album Halo Moon on September 27. “For the River Man” is majorly trippy, as is the video.

KILL LINCOLN – “ALL WORRIES”
Kill Lincoln are one of the best fast, catchy ska-punk bands around right now, and their new album No Normal finds them doing what they do best. Read our recent interview with vocalist Mike Sosinski for more on the LP while you check out its rippin’ new single “All Worries.”

BABYFACE RAY – “COUNT MONEY” (ft. BOSSMAN DLOW)
Detroit rapper Babyface Ray has announced a new album, The Kid That Did, due September 13 via via Wavy Gang / EMPIRE. Here’s the hazy yet ominous new single “Count Money.”

SKULLPRESSER – “BORN TO PLEASE”
Skullpresser (members of Mannequin Pussy, The Wonder Years, Burdens, etc), who we just highlighted in a list of 10 punk supergroups doing great stuff right now, have shared a new anti-capitalist hardcore rager from their upcoming EP Positions of Power.

PHANTOGRAM – “COME ALIVE”
Phantogram announced a new album, Memory of a Day, due out October 18 via Neon Gold. It includes their recent singles “Happy Again” and “All A Mystery,” and they’ve shared a third new track, “Come Alive.” “The song started as a gritty chopped-up drum beat Josh made, that John Hill took and messed around with an old analog synth to make the sci-fi sound you now hear, and Sarah added in the bouncy bass line,” they say. “Together we then messed with running some synths through guitar pedals, arranging a cool-sounding melody and hook, and we knew we had something special. Lyrically, the song started from an idea of looking at life like a calendar. Our good friend Dan Wilson sat down with us and brainstormed different interpretations of a life calendar and the fleeting nature of life. For us, ‘Come Alive’ is about embracing existence and recognizing how fragile life is. It’s about rolling with the punches, facing your fears, learning to cope with failures and success, pain and joy, addiction and connection. There are new days and new ways of turning into stone, and there are new ways to come alive.”

BUÑUEL (ex-OXBOW) – “DRUG BURN”
Former Oxbow leader Eugene S. Robinson has announced his first new album since Oxbow’s demise. It’s the fourth album by his band Buñuel, and it features contributions from members of Converge, The Jesus Lizard, Couch Slut, and more. Read more about the heavy, sludgy lead single “Drug Burn” here.

KILLING OF A SACRED DEER – “DEVOTION”
Killing Of A Sacred Deer is a new Canadian metallic hardcore band with some familiar (yet mysterious) faces. They share members with Serration, World Of Pleasure, Mortality Rate, and Secret & Whisper, but all we know for sure is that the lead vocalist is Colter James from Serration and World of Pleasure. Their first single “Devotion” features guest vocals from World of Pleasure/Mortality Rate’s Jess Nyx, and their upcoming self-titled EP (due September 6) has more guests that are being kept under wraps for now.
