So many artists, so many songs, so little time. Each week we review a handful of new albums (of all genres), round up even more new music that we’d call “indie,” and talk about what metal is coming out. COLIN STETSON & BRIGHDE CHAIMBEUL – “DIRT DANCE”
Saxophonist Colin Stetson and Scottish smallpipes player Brìghde Chaimbeul have announced a collaborative album, All the light in the world, which will be out September 11 via Envision Records. “Played on the F mezzo soprano saxophone and Brighde’s Scottish smallpipes, this song is a joyous mathy weaving of melody and modulation, rooted in pulse yet free and floating as it builds to its liftoff,” says Stetson of the album’s first single. “Seamount: Like Dirt dance, this song feels to me like describing an act of creating—simply and patiently billowing, drawing place and substance out of an emptiness, like magma pushing up through the depths to break the water’s surface, emerging as an island alone in the expanse.”

GRACE CUMMINGS – “FAKE”
Grace Cummings has shared another preview of her new album Bloodhorse!. “Sometimes, being called a ‘good girl’ is a form of abuse,” she says. “And you internalise it. You spend your whole life acting out this role, even though it makes you feel sick. Even though you know it is a form of control. I hate those words, ‘good girl.’ So in this song, I just choke on the first letter. The second half of the song is about the other person’s remorse.”

LAMBCHOP – “THE NEW WORLD WAVE”
Kurt Wagner says “The New World Wave” is a “family saga set during the Great Depression.” New album Punching The Clown is out August 21.

MISERY INDEX – “FERAL FUTURE”
Baltimore deathgrinders Misery Index re-signed to Season of Mist earlier this year, and now they’ve shared a new single. “‘Feral Future’ is about changing the way we think about our relationship with nature,” bassist and vocalist Jason Netherton says. “Nature isn’t something we rule over or exist outside of. It’s something we are immersed in everywhere all the time. This song champions the rewilding of damaged and corrupted human spaces and reclaims a more feral connection that respects the sublime wonder of nature.”

WHIMM – “FIVE IN DECLINE” FT CINDY LEE
Toronto post-punk duo WHIMM (Mounir Al Shami and Andrew Matthews) have announced new album No Promotion which is out October 2 via W.25TH / Superior Viaduct. Half the album was produced by Cindy Lee’s Patrick Flegel and they play on this song “Five in Decline.”

CHIODOS – “TAPDAT”
Chiodos begin a “new era” with their first new music in over a decade, “TAPDAT.” It’s out on their new label home, SharpTone Records, and frontman Craig Owens says, “There is still so much work to be done to build out the world of Chiodos. TAPDAT is the first step in that direction. Its return to our ethos is what drew me back to creating with this band, and you can feel it throughout every minute of the song. An unapologetic, experimental ride that pulls you in every step of the way. As for the future of Chiodos, I’m surrounded by incredible talent. We are stronger, more focused than ever and eager to continue the story I’ve been waiting 12 years to tell.”

THE GOODS – “SUMMER’S ALMOST GONE”
Oakland, CA power pop purveyors The Goods have announced their second album, Goodbye Summertime, which is out September 16 via Dandy Boy. Check out the chiming first single, “Summer’s Almost Gone.”

LIVING WEAPON – “INTERSPECIES QUALITY ASSESSMENT”
Living Weapon (ft. members of Vein.fm and Fleshwater) will release their debut full-length Death in the Family next month, and they’ve given us another early taste with “Interspcies Quality Assessment.”

BITCHIN BAJAS – “ISLE PEAKS”
Chicago synth trio Bitchin Bajas have announced new EP Isle Peaks which will be out August 28 via Drag City. This was originally an exclusive to high fidelity streaming service Qobuz but will now be available for everyone to hear.

BUDDY MILLER – “DON’T LOOK BACK” FT DAN PENN”
The great Buddy Miller has announced a new self-titled album — his first solo album in 15 years — which will be out September 11 via New West. It features appearances by Emmylou Harris, The War & Treaty, Lee Ann Womack, Shawn Colvin, Ashley Monroe, Elizabeth Cook, Jim Lauderdale, Larry Campbell, Teresa Williams, and Dan Penn who contributes to this first single.
