So many artists, so many songs, so little time. Each week we review a handful of new albums (of all genres), round up even more new music that we’d call “indie,” and talk about what metal is coming out. We post music news, track premieres, and more all day. We update a playlist weekly of some of our current favorite tracks. Here’s a daily roundup with a bunch of interesting, newly released songs in one place.
METHOD MAN, REDMAN & RAEKWON – RED BULL SPIRAL FREESTYLE
Wu-Tang members Method Man and Raekwon and longtime Meth collaborator Redman have teamed up for a freestyle cypher for Red Bull. You know what to expect from these guys, and they deliver.

FRIKO – “PRIDE TRIALS”
The expanded edition of Friko’s debut full-length is out this Friday (11/22), and they’ve shared another bonus track, “Pride Trials,” which they say “was actually one of the first Friko songs. We started playing it in late 2019 at DIY shows in Chicago and then we recorded it around that time as well. It went through many transformations and ended up at a place that we truly love. This is a very special song for us.”

JAYE JAYLE – “FATHER FICTION”
Jaye Jayle (aka Young Widows’ Evan Patterson) has announced a new album, After Alter, due January 31 via Pelagic. The first single is the gothy, bluesy “Father Fiction.”

LAMBRINI GIRLS – “LOVE”
Lambrini Girls have given us another early taste of their debut album, Who Let the Dogs Out. About their new single, they say, “‘Love’ isn’t a critique on real affection—it’s about mistaking toxicity for love. Like a moth drawn to a flame, unable to discern between warmth that soothes and a fire that burns you, and getting pissed off about it. It’s an embrace full of sharp edges, a kiss that stings. Poison pretending to be sweet, venom dressed up as nectar. When love is learned through chaos, pain feels like connection. It’s the cycle of chasing affection through suffering and holding on because you’ve never known anything else. It’s about the bitterness and resentment from trying to find something, only to realize it remains elusive. What this song conveys isn’t love at all; in fact, it’s very opposite.”

AL GREEN – “EVERYBODY HURTS” (R.E.M. COVER)
The tradition of rock and soul artists covering each other is a long and great one, and today we get treated to a lovely rework of R.E.M.’s classic “Everybody Hurts” by soul legend Al Green. It’s his first single since he put out a rendition of Lou Reed’s “Perfect Day” in 2023.

DANESHEVSKAYA – “SCROOGE”
Daneshevskaya is back with her first new music since her 2023 debut Long is the Tunnel. About “Scrooge,” she says, “This song is about making someone a villain so that you can accept that they don’t want to be in your life anymore. Becoming detached from someone in that way to the point where you can see them like other people see them is empowering, but also really sad. Even though it was written a few years ago, it keeps being relevant in my life.”

JAMES BRANDON LEWIS TRIO – “FIVE SPOTS TO CARAVAN”
The James Brandon Lewis Trio have announced new album Apple Cores which the saxophonist fully improvised with bandmates Chad Taylor (drums/mbira) and Josh Werner (bass/guitar). “If you don’t spend time with your band, you’re not going to really trust that moment,” Lewis says. “I think we’ve spent enough time together to where we can do that. I’ve been playing Chad for like ten years, so that’s like water right there and me and Josh have been playing together since 2018.” Check out the first single.

GOAT GIRL – “GOSSIP”
London band Goat Girl have followed up this year’s Below The Waste with this new single they produced themselves with John ‘Spud’ Murphy (Lankum / black midi). “Gossip” further explores their electronic side, citing Aphex Twin, Koreless, Tirzah and Gilla Band as influences.

GINA BIRCH (RAINCOATS) – “LISTEN THE SNOW IS FALLING”
Gina Birch of Raincoats has shared this cover of Yoko Ono’s “Listen the Snow is Falling.” She says, “In 2023 I played a gig at Tate Britain when the brilliant Yoko Ono show was on at Tate Modern. I thought it would be great to play one of Yoko’s songs at our performance…we chose the song because it is haunting and beautiful and it was released as a b-side. Who doesn’t love a b-side?”

CAMP SAINT HELENE – “WONDER NOW”
New Angel Olsen-curated compilation Cosmic Waves Volume 1 is out next month, and we’ve been given another early taste with two more advance tracks. The first is a new song from Camp Saint Helene.

ANGEL OLSEN – “FARFISA SONG” (CAMP SAINT HELENE COVER)
The second is Angel’s cover of another Camp Saint Helene song, “Farfisa Song.” About meeting Camp Saint Helene, Angel says, “We were driving to Trust, NC to shoot the cover and campaign for Big Time and Silken Weinberg and Angela Ricciardi were introducing me to some projects they were about to work on – one being for the band Camp Saint Helene, an album that was the perfect backdrop of cult folk for our adventure into the wild mountains of Buncombe county. After our shoot wrapped, I kept coming back to the record and feeling like it had encapsulated the memory of a chapter ending, and when I want to go back to the days of sunset at max patch, I put it on.”

THE MOLES – “CHIMES”
The Moles, led by Richard Davies, are back with new album Composition Book which will be out February 7 via Robert Pollard’s label, Splendid Research. Says Bob: “Richard Davies is one of the last great songwriters on planet Earth. Every song on Composition Book is up there with his finest and so it’s no small feat that after 35 years of making beautiful records, this one is his best.”

GUIDED BY VOICES – “FLY RELIGION”
“I wanted to get a little more sonic diversity for this album,” says Guided by Voices’ Robert Pollard of the band’s forthcoming 41st album. “So I asked each member of the band to record all the instruments for one song and I did three songs myself. For the rest of the songs, we used a lot of different approaches to the recording of both the instruments and the vocals.”

MEKONS – “YOU’RE NOT SINGING ANYMORE”
Punk/indie icons the Mekons have signed to Fire Records and have shared their first single for the label. “You’re Not Singing Anymore” finds the band in fine, anthemic, twangy form.

FROG EYES – “E-E-Y-O-R-E (THAT’S ME!)”
Vancouver indie rock greats Frog Eyes are back with their first new music in nearly three years. Named for the lovable sad sack donkey in Winnie the Pooh stories, “E-E-Y-O-R-E (That’s Me!)” is an anthemic, angular and very catchy slab of Frog Eyes-style indie rock, and Carey Mercer says there’s more where that come from soon.

HORSEGIRL – “2468”
Horsegirl have announced their second album, Phonetics On and On, which will be out February 14 via Matador. It was produced by Cate Le Bon and recorded at Wilco’s The Loft studio in Chicago in January 2024.

MOSES SUMNEY & ANOHNI – “IS IT COLD IN THE WATER?” (SOPHIE COVER)
Red Hot has been gradually rolling out songs from TRAИƧA, a new compilation benefitting “vital LGTBQ+ organizations at the same time it culturally invigorates the fight for trans rights,” and today sees the release of an especially crucial track, Moses Sumney and ANOHNI‘s cover of the late trans electronic musician SOPHIE‘s “Is It Cold In The Water?.” According to TRAИƧA producer Dust Reid, SOPHIE’s passing was one of the major catalysts for this compilation in the first place.
