So many artists, so many songs, so little time. Each week we review a handful of new albums (of all genres), round up even more new music that we’d call “indie,” and talk about what metal is coming out. We post music news, track premieres, and more all day. We update a playlist weekly of some of our current favorite tracks. Here’s a daily roundup with a bunch of interesting, newly released songs in one place.
HEALTH x FILTER – “FREE TO DIE”
HEALTH continue their long string of collaborative tracks by teaming up with industrial veterans Filter (who just announced a tour with Jerry Cantrell) on “Free To Die,” a track from the new expanded version of last year’s Rat Wars. If you like either band, you’ll probably like this too.

NICK OFFERMAN – “YOU BETTER VOTE”
“Governing any group of humans is a tall, tall order indeed,” Nick Offerman says. “Downright altitudinous. And we’ll never be done improving our system and our policies, ‘in order to form a more perfect union.’ So we all have a responsibility to get off our substantial American cabooses and vote!”

THE HEAD AND THE HEART – “ARROW”
The Head and The Heart have signed to Verve Forecast and shared their first single for the label, “Arrow.” It’ll also appear on their next album, which is still to be announced. “It’s a very self-empowering song for me,” vocalist and guitarist Jonathan Russell says. “Sometimes you feel a little lost at sea without an anchor. If something was to go south, would anybody even be able to help you or find you? It’s nice to know that you have your own way of providing yourself with confidence when you’re out there in the dark.”

SNOOPER – “RELAY”
Nashville mutant punks Snooper are heading out on tour soon and to get people hyped they’ve shared twisted ripper.

GIRL AND GIRL – “THE COW”
Australian band Girl And Girl released their debut album, Call A Doctor, earlier this year on Sub Pop and now they’re back with this infectious new single. “All my friends call me ‘The Cow!’” says frontman Kai James. “Not really, but sometimes I think they should, because sometimes I let my cow brain speak louder than my cow heart, and of all of your cow parts, you should listen most to your cow heart.”

SORRY – “WAXWING”
London duo SORRY are back with their first new music in two years. “Waxwing” feels like a step up, with dark, gleaming synths and a searing solo. It also finds inspiration in an unusual place: Toni Basil’s new wave cheerleader classic “Hey Mickey.” SORRY uses that song’s lyrics to their own devices, painting a brooding portrait of desire and obsession.

HORSEBATH – “IN THE SHADE”
Canadian band HORSEBATH make what you could call heartland psychedelia; their sound is warm, a little twangy, a little soulful, anthemic and familiar, but there’s also a groovy sense of wide-eyed wonder, and a love of the cinematic. You can hear all that on “In the Shade,” the new single from their upcoming debut album.

CHRIS BROACH (BRAID) – “BIG BRIGHT LIGHTS”
Braid’s Chris Broach has been releasing solo singles all year, and today brings another new one, a punchy indie rock song called “Big Bright Lights.”

NO CURE – “PURPLE HEART”
Birmingham, Alabama metalcore band No Cure drop a new track for Edge Day.

GLADIE – “DIGGING A POND”
Gladie (the current band led by Cayetana’s Augusta Koch) wrote and recorded this suspenseful new indie rock song for a Weathervane Music session, and it’s a very good one. Check it out, and also watch the accompanying video with studio footage and an interview with Augusta.

MARGARITAS PODRIDAS – “MUGRE MORADA”
Mexico punks Margaritas Podridas are currently on tour with Mannequin Pussy, and they’re also gearing up for a not-yet-announced new album for Hopeless Records. While we wait for more on that, here’s their noisy new single “Mugre Morada.”

CALIFONE – “BURN THE SHEETS. BLEACH THE BOOKS”
Chicago experimental indie vets Califone first released a lo-fi version of “Burn the Sheets. Bleach the Books” on 2016’s Insect Courage EP, and then they recorded a more proper studio version during the session for 2023’s Villagers, which now sees the light of day.

SPLIT CHAIN – “I DON’T WANNA BE ME” (TYPE O NEGATIVE COVER)
The Epitaph-signed, UK-based band Split Chain have been putting out singles that find them toeing the line between shoegaze and nu metal, and today they’ve put their spin on a cover of Type O Negative’s revved-up classic “I Don’t Wanna Be Me” (which was also recently covered by Employed To Serve/Renounced offshoot Glorious).

SHUTDOWN – “BY YOUR SIDE”
NYHC veterans Shutdown have announced a new EP with their first new music in over 20 years, and you can read about the title track “By Your Side” here.
