17 New Songs Out Today

So many artists, so many songs, so little time. Each week we review a handful of new albums (of all genres), round up even more new music that we’d call “indie,” and talk about what metal is coming out. We post music news, track premieres, and more all day. We update a playlist weekly of some of our current favorite tracks. Here’s a daily roundup with a bunch of interesting, newly released songs in one place.

LIL NAS X – “HERE WE GO!”

Eddie Murphy is reprising his role as Axel Foley in Netflix’s upcoming Beverly Hills Cop: Axel F, the first Beverly Hills Cop film in 30 years. It comes out next week (July 3), and it’ll feature this new Lil Nas X song, which interpolates the classic “Axel F” theme song.

TYLER CHILDERS – “SONG WHILE YOU’RE AWAY”

Speaking of songs from soundtracks of long-awaited sequels to classic ’90s movies, Twisters (the sequel to 1996’s Twister) is coming to theaters on July 19, and its country-heavy soundtrack features music by Luke Combs, Miranda Lambert, Lainey Wilson, Jelly Roll, Tyler Childers, Shania Twain & Breland, Wyatt Flores, Mason Ramsey, Tyler Halverson, Flatland Cavalry, Charley Crockett, and more. Tyler’s song “Song While You’re Away” is out now, and it’s a pretty great countrified Southern rock ballad.

NADA SURF – “NEW PROPELLER”

Here’s the second single from Nada Surf’s upcoming 10th album Moon Mirror and it comes with a video directed by Mark Pellington who also gave us Pearl Jam’s “Jeremy,” P.M. Dawn’s “Set Adrift on Memory Bliss,” U2’s “One” and more.

CLAIRO – “NOMAD”

Clairo’s new album Charm arrives in July, and she’s given us another early taste with the folksy, mellow “Nomad.”

DESIRE – “DANGEROUS DRUG”

Italians Do It Better band Desire will release Games People Play on October 2 and this is the new single. “Dangerous Drug” has nice strut.

DORA JAR – “TIMELAPSE”

Dora Jar follows her May single “She Loves Me” with her second new song of the year, “Timelapse.” “‘Who am I?’ is a recurring question I ask throughout my album,” she says. “When I moved back to New York in my early adulthood, it was the first time I felt like I could have fun living the answer to that question. New York moves so fast, your surroundings blur, and change feels more intense and inevitable. I wanted this song to sound like getting lost in the busy time lapse of life.”

AMINDI – “PASSIONATE”

Amindi has announced a new EP, Luvr, due July 17, and she shared the funk-infused R&B of lead single “Passionate.”

OKAY KAYA – “UNDULATION DAYS”

Okay Kaya announced a new album, Oh My God – that’s so me, due out on September 6. The first single is the minimal “Undulation Days.”

MANUEL TURIZO – “DIOS TE CUIDE”

Miami-based Colombian musician Manuel Turizo is expected to release his fourth album 201 this year, and its latest single is the acoustic ballad “Dios Te Cuide.”

SKORTS – “STEAL THE NIGHT”

Skorts’ riffy new single was produced, mixed, and mastered by Teddy O’Mara, and “workshopped on the field thru countless sweaty nights with y’all.”

JOEP BEVING & MAARTEN VOS – “A NIGHT IN RENO”

Pianist Joep Beving & cellist Maarten Vos will release vision of contentment on July 19 via Nils Frahm’s LEITER label and here is the tranquil new single. “‘A Night in Reno’ perfectly encapsulates the energy that filled the room throughout the week of recording this album,” says Beving. “There’s an enigmatic quality to it, something we felt but couldn’t have planned beforehand. It’s pensive and poignant at the same time. A confident embrace of the unknown, striding through the twilight of night that transforms into morning. A bittersweet cocktail of merging realities. It illustrates the entire vibe of this record, and I can’t wait to share the rest of it with the world.”

PROPAGANDA – “PURVEYOR OF PLEASURE”

Düsseldorf synthpop vets Propaganda, who in the ’80s were signed to Trevor Horn’s influential ZTT Records (you may remember their single “Dr Mabuse“), will release their new self-titled album on October 11 via Bureau B Records. That’s a ways off but you can check out first single “Purveyor of Pleasure” now.

REMY BOND & AIR – “SUMMER SONG

Air are back in action, touring the globe this year playing their debut Moon Safari in full, and they’ve just released their first new music since the 2014 soundtrack Music for Museum. It comes in the form of a collaboration with American singer Remy Bond titled “Summer Song.” She co-wrote it with Jean-Benoît Dunckel, and he and Nicolas Godin both play on it.

Link 80 offshoot Omnigone’s new song was written about Link 80 singer Nick Traina, who tragically took his own life at age 19 in 1997. It’s a powerful track and you can read about it here.
