16 New Songs Out Today

So many artists, so many songs, so little time. Each week we review a handful of new albums (of all genres), round up even more new music that we’d call “indie,” and talk about what metal is coming out. We post music news, track premieres, and more all day. We update a playlist weekly of some of our current favorite tracks. Here’s a daily roundup with a bunch of interesting, newly released songs in one place.

NICK HAKIM – “ENDLESSLY WAITING” & “THE REASON”

Nick Hakim’s new album is out in two weeks and he’s just shared two more songs from it. “Endlessly Waiting” is dreamy R&B while “The Reason” while “The Reason” heads even more into the ether.

HULDER – “IN BLOOD AND IN EARTH”

PacNW black metal greats Hulder will release their new album Verbolgen on August 7 via 20 Buck Spin, and the “second spell” is “In Blood and In Earth.” “This second offering from the forthcoming album stands as a warning and a spell,” they say. “Speak these words as the land below bellows forewarning… Shall you fall upon your knees?”

MUI ZYU – “GIVE YOURSELF TO THE FLOW OF TIME (TERESA TENG COVER)

About her new cover of Teresa Teng’s “Give Yourself to the Flow of Time,” mui zyu says, “I adore all things Teng, have had her records and cds at home since i was little and I’m always so excited when I find a second hand vinyl out in the wild. The original is so iconic, and I thought it’d just be a little treat to myself to make a new recording (and add it to the neverending pile of covers of this song).” She adds, “if you’re wondering why I’ve been recording these Japanese covers, despite being a failed Cantonese, and dyslexic English speaker – stay t00ned..”

ANTHRAX – “THE EDGE OF PERFECTION”

Anthrax release their first album in a decade, Cursum Perficio, in September, and guitarist Scott Ian calls new single “The Edge of Perfection “the apex predator of Anthrax songs” and “the best song we’ve ever written and the best thing I’ve ever been a part of creatively.”

OPEN MIKE EAGLE & KENNY SEGAL – “WATCHING A MOVIE CALLED FREEDOM BY MYSELF”

Open Mike Eagle and Kenny Segal have given us another taste of their new album DOOMED!, which is out next month.

ALABAMA SHAKES – “I FEEL HOPE COMING”

Alabama Shakes announced their first new album in over a decade, I Must Be Dreaming, earlier this week, and now they’ve given us preview with “I Feel Hope Coming.” “This younger generation makes me feel hopeful because they can see through all the political lies—that song’s about holding onto that hope, and refusing to give up,” Brittany Howard says.

FELDSPAR – “HEART IS A GHETTO”

Italian hardcore/power-pop band Feldspar announced a new album, Soft Side, due out October 9 via Stage Dive. They say punchy new single “Heart is a Ghetto” is “about the walls you put up when the world gets too loud. Between the endless scrolling, the noise, and the people who turn out uglier than they first seemed, your heart becomes this small, overcrowded place you’re terrified to let anyone into. It’s not pride — it’s self-defense. The song lives in that tension: wanting to let someone close, and being sure they’ll tear you apart.”

MOVEMENTS – “SEPARATE”

Movements have given us another taste of their fourth album, Happier Now, with “Separate.” Britain Weyant directed the accompanying video, where mannequins seem to have replaced all the people.

EMMA OGIER – “ROCKSTEADY/HEAVYMETAL”

Emma Ogier, who performed with Bright Eyes at their I’m Wide Awake It’s Morning / Digital Ash in a Digital Urn shows earlier this year, has teamed up with Eden Joel for “Rocksteady/HeavyMetal.” “I made a quick demo of what is now the intro of this song, and brought it to one of my favorite collaborators, Eden Joel, to make a song of it,” Ogier says. “Our relationship is special and complicated and has always possessed a serious-feeling of depth. What started as an undeniable connection and incessant belief in each other, in terms of us both being two young songwriters – vulnerable, on the internet and trying to make real careers of it – turned romantic, yes, but also taught us something about the weight of love – how even when its median shifts, real love is when you still hope for the others success and joy.”

FUMING MOUTH – “FINALLY FEARLESS”

Fuming Mouth’s new album The Ringing Bell arrives next week via Triple B, and they’ve given us a final advance taste with “Finally Fearless.”
