So many artists, so many songs, so little time. Each week we review a handful of new albums (of all genres), round up even more new music that we’d call “indie,” and talk about what metal is coming out. We post music news, track premieres, and more all day. We update a playlist weekly of some of our current favorite tracks. Here’s a daily roundup with a bunch of interesting, newly released songs in one place.
JOE GODDARD (HOT CHIP) – “IMAGE AND STYLE” (FEAT. SUKU OF WARD 21 & DYNAMITE MC)
Hot Chip’s Joe Goddard has announced new EP Kinetic which will be out May 9 via Domino. “This EP focuses on the club more than my album Harmonics did,” Joe says. “Working with MCs like Dynamite, Suku and Pinty was a real pleasure as I have been a fan of all of them for many years. I have been playing these tracks whilst DJing for the last year. Seeing the resurgence of UK garage recently it felt like a good moment to work in that genre again as it has always been so close to my heart. Seeing it bloom around the world is so cool.” Check out the first single.

ANNAHSTASIA – “SILK AND VELVET”
Los Angeles-based artist Annahstasia releases her debut album, Tether, in June, and she’s shared another single, “Silk and Velvet,” which she says is “a nod to the 4th wall between performer and consumer. Dream and reality. I understand that much of the time I am a hypocrite and there are limited strides that I can make in absolving that – while still chasing this dream I have. So instead of attempting to hide the elephant in the room I need a song that expressed it plainly. Yes this is a game, a game I would rather not play and I do not entirely enjoy it. As an artist, I sell parts of myself to the world, begrudgingly sometimes. All so that I can have what most people want and chase their entire lives, some level of comfort and security, to cultivate beauty and joy in peace. I maintain self-awareness of my place in the matrix with the endgoal being to always find my North Star, to get to the mountain peak and see the view and still remember the version of myself that started the journey.”

JAYLA KAI – “LOVE LETTER TO EVERYONE”
Ahead of her tour supporting Beach Bunny, Brooklyn-via-Catskills artist Jayla Kai announced a new EP. Love Letter to Everyone is due out May 14, and she’s shared the title track, which incorporates intimate folk and full-band indie rock sounds.

GRUMPY – “HARMONY” FT. CLAIRE ROUSAY & PINK MUST
Grumpy’s new single features claire rousay and Pink Must, the collaborative project of More Eaze and Lynn Avery Murphy. “This song was scientifically engineered so that every individual element will be stuck in your head at all times,” Pink Must say.

JEANINES – “ON AND ON”
NYC twee indie group Jeanines have announced their third album, ‘How Long Will It Last, which will be out June 27 via Slumberland. “On and On” is another of their effortless low-fi earworms.

SHAMIR – “RECORDING 291”
Shamir has shared some more details about Ten, which he says is his final solo album. It’s due out digitally on May 19, the 10 year anniversary of Ratchet, via Kill Rock Stars, and he’s shared another single from it. “Recording 291” was written by Paige Pfleger, who stars in the video with Shamir.

JAMES MCMURTRY – “THE BLACK DOG AND THE WANDERING BOY”
Veteran singer-songwriter James McMurtry will release new album The Black Dog and the Wandering Boy on June 20 via New West. The album was produced by Don Dixon (R.E.M., Smithereens) and features contributions from Sarah Jarosz, Charlie Sexton, and more. This is the title track.

MAIA FRIEDMAN – “IN A DREAM IT COULD HAPPEN”
“I wanted the imagery in this song to sweep you away into an otherworldly voyage,” Maia Friedman says of the lush, orchestral new single from her new album Goodbye Long Winter Shadow. “Vines growing at unusual speed by candlelight (think Buffy The Vampire Slayer season 4, episode 18). Riverside (earth) to Iapetus Crater (moon of Saturn). Car pulled along on a conveyor belt up through the atmosphere into the rings of Saturn (think Coco, bridge to the spirit world). The sun rises, falls, rises and falls again without much notice, and in the end it’s all a dream. All instrumentation was written with this in mind; chromatic winds, harmonies and reharmonizations galore.”

LIGHTHEADED – “SAME DROP”
NJ indiepop group Lightheaded have announced their new album Thinking, Dreaming, Scheming!, which will be out June 27 via Slumberland. “Same Drop” is classic ’60s pop shot through a post-punk filter.

DEB NEVER – “KNOW ME BETTER”
Deb Never has followed her February single “This Alive” with another new track, “Know Me Better,” which pairs her woozy bedroom pop with strings.

LOU TIDES – “MAP MAKER”
Teeny Lieberson, who used to front TEEN and is now in Sharon Van Etten & The Attachment Theory, will release her new album as Lou Tides, Autostatic!, in May and “Map Maker” is a slinky bit of gothy club music.

SHURA – “WORLD’S WORST GIRLFRIEND”
“‘World’s Worst Girlfriend’ is me at my peak dramatic gay,” Shura says of the latest single off her new album I Got Too Sad For My Friends. “An anthem about feeling like a spectacularly bad girlfriend because instead of going on nice dates I mostly wanted to stay inside and hide away from the world with our cats and play video games.”

MOON MULLINS – “THE PARADISE LOUNGE”
Sean Mullins, who was in NYC band Wilder Maker, makes music on his own as Moon Mullins and will release new album Hotel Paradiso on May 2. “The Paradise Lounge” takes ’60s exotica and runs it through ’70s synths and drum machines (and also strings and woodwinds).

FONTAINES D.C. – “BEFORE YOU I JUST FORGET” AND “STARBURSTER / IN HEAVEN”
Fontaines D.C. just released a Deluxe Edition of ROMANCE and bonus tracks include these two previously unreleased tracks: “Before You I Just Forget” and a live, stripped-back version of “Starburster” that is mashed up with David Lynch’s “In Heaven” (aka “The Lady in the Radiator Song” from Eraserhead).
