So many artists, so many songs, so little time. Each week we review a handful of new albums (of all genres), round up even more new music that we’d call “indie,” and talk about what metal is coming out. West Coast emo-punks Like Roses continue to rise and drop new singles, and here’s an chunky slow-burner produced by former Taking Back Sunday member/Breaking Pangaea leader Fred Mascherino.

THANKS FOR COMING – “UNTITLED” (INTERPOL COVER)
Rachel Brown of Water From Your Eyes teamed up with their bandmate Nate Amos (who also releases music as This is Lorelei) for a cover of Interpol’s Turn on the Bright Lights opener “Untitled.”

PIGEON PIT – “KEYS TO THE CITY”
Olympia, WA folk punks Pigeon Pit have announced their fourth album, Crazy Arms, due January 17 via Ernest Jenning Record Co, and singer Lomes Oleander says new single “Keys to the City” is “about being a part of the living flesh of the city, having fun in sketchy ways, the ways that make you feel real and excited to go out at night.”

HANDCUFF – “BRAINSLIDE”
UK punks Handcuff continue their string of 2024 singles with the peppy, punchy “Brainslide.”

PLAYTHATBOIZAY – “PUT IT DOWN” (ft. FERG & HUNTER)
South Florida rapper (and frequent Denzel Curry collaborator) PlayThatBoiZay will release a deluxe edition of VAMPIRES IMPERSONATING PEOPLE next Friday (12/13) via Loma Vista, and its ominous new single “Put It Down” features the recently-revitalized FERG, along with Hunter.

SHADOWS FALL – “IN THE GREY”
Melodic metalcore veterans Shadows Fall make the 12-year gap with no music sound like nothing at all on new single “In The Grey,” their first release since signing to MNRK Heavy.

THE HALO EFFECT (IN FLAMES, DARK TRANQUILLITY) – “CRUEL PERCEPTION”
Swedish melodeath supergroup The Halo Effect will release their new album March Of The Unheard on January 10 via Nuclear Blast, and the brightly melodic fury they’re best known for is in full effect on new single “Cruel Perception.”

MOZZY & KALAN.FRR – “BBL” (ft. ROB49)
Sacramento rapper Mozzy and Los Angeles rapper Kalan.FrFr have announced a collaborative album, Lucky Her, due December 20 via EMPIRE, and they bring in New Orleans’ Rob49 for its new single “BBL.”

MILK & BONE – “FORGONE”
Canadian synthpop duo Milk & Bone will release new EP Baby Dreamer on January 17 via Nettwerk. First single is “FORGONE” which will also be featured on the soundtrack of the videogame Lost Records: Bloom & Rage. They say, “When writing and producing the song with Micah Jasper, it instantly felt like it was set at night. There was something ominous about it, but it still felt extremely personal and driven.”

DUNGEN – ‘OTIS’ EP
Swedish psych greats Dungen have been dabbling in ’90s-style breakbeats for a couple years, but this new EP is pure, unfiltered jungle.

MALLRAT – “HORSES”
Mallrat announced her new album and gave us another early taste with “Horses,” which you can read more about here.

ZETA – “STEPS” (ft. ANTHONY GREEN)
Venezuelan-born, Florida-based experimental post-hardcore band Zeta have shared the second single off their upcoming album Was It Medicine To You?, and this one kinda has an RX Bandits-esque reggae/prog/post-hardcore vibe with guest vocals from Anthony Green (who also happens to be in a band with members of RX Bandits). It does not disappoint.

TIMOTHÉE CHALAMET – “GIRL FROM THE NORTH COUNTRY” & “LIKE A ROLLING STONE” (BOB DYLAN COVERS)
The first two tracks from the soundtrack to Bob Dylan biopic A Complete Unknown have arrived, sung by Timothée Chalamet, who plays Dylan in the film. Read more about them here.
