So many artists, so many songs, so little time. Each week we review a handful of new albums (of all genres), round up even more new music that we’d call “indie,” and talk about what metal is coming out. We post music news, track premieres, and more all day. We update a playlist weekly of some of our current favorite tracks. Here’s a daily roundup with a bunch of interesting, newly released songs in one place.
FAT DOG – “PEACE SONG”
After releasing their debut album WOOF. in September, rising UK synthpunk/nu-rave purveyors Fat Dog have shared a new single, “Peace Song.” Between the subject matter and the children’s choir, it’s the most Fat Dog have ever sounded like John Lennon.

AMBROSE AKINMUSIRE – “MUFFLED SCREAMS”
Modern-day jazz great Ambrose Akinmusire has announced a new album, Honey From A Winter Stone, due January 17 via Nonesuch. The first single is the 15-minute “Muffled Screams.”

CYMANDE – “ONLY ONE WAY” (ft. CELESTE)
London psychedelic funk/soul legends Cymande have guest lead vocals from a much newer British soul singer, Celeste, on the sweeping, string-laden ballad “Only One Way.” It’ll appear on their first album in 10 years, Renascence.

LUCERO – “THAT MUCH FURTHER WEST (UNPLUGGED)
Lucero’s Ben Nichols and Rick Steff have recorded stripped-down, acoustic-guitar-and-piano-based re-imaginings of Lucero songs for Lucero Unplugged, due on January 24. Here’s a gorgeous rendition of the title track of 2003’s That Much Further West with a live-in-studio video.

OMAR APOLLO, TRENT REZNOR & ATTICUS ROSS – “TE MALDIGO”
Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross continue to keep busy scoring films, and their latest, Luca Guadagnino’s A24 film Queer, is out in theaters on November 27. Omar Apollo also stars in the film, and it’s his first song entirely in Spanish since 2022.

MOLLY BURCH – “IT’S CHRISTMAS TIME (AGAIN)”
Molly Burch is no stranger to releasing holiday music, and she’s shared another seasonal song for 2024, the sleigh bell-adorned “It’s Christmas Time (Again).”

BARTEES STRANGE – “XMAS”
Bartees Strange’s new album Horror comes out in February, but instead of the next single from that, he’s shared a new holiday track, “Xmas.” “With holidays around the corner I wanted to try something new and write a Christmas (Krampus) song,” he says. “Took me like half the year to write this, and I did it the only way I knew how. Do you know how hard writing a Christmas song is? It makes you a bit inside out – even for something as light and weird as it is. Here’s something a bit nice, loose, ugly and unserious – XMAS is out now.”

BLOOD LEMON – “PERFECT TOO”
Boise trio Blood Lemon are releasing a new EP, Petite Deaths, due out on January 17 via Moon Ruins. The lead single is the grungy “Perfect Too,” and vocalist and bassist Melanie Radford (who is also currently in Built to Spill) says, “We performed this song live on our Winter tour with Built to Spill a couple years ago and it became an instant favorite. It has a nice build and performing it live has been incredibly satisfying.”

AMBER MARK – “WAIT SO YEAH”
Amber Mark’s new EP Loosies is out this Friday (11/22) via Interscope, and ahead of its release, she’s shared a final advance single, “Wait So Yeah,” featuring Two Fresh, John Ryan, and Steph Jones.

SISTER RAY – “ANIMAL THING”
Toronto based singer-sonwriter Ella Coyes has shared their first new music as Sister Ray since 2022. “‘Animal Thing’ starts in The Imperial Pub (Toronto, ON) at 12:15 am on a Tuesday,” they say. “It’s about that liminal space between wanting to know someone and knowing them, drinking more than you should to talk a little longer, to feel a little stronger, going home alone and building castles in the sky over coffee on the front porch.”

KING HANNAH – “BLUE CHRISTMAS” (ELVIS COVER)
“We’ve been singing Blue Christmas together for the past couple of years, and so it felt right to celebrate our favourite time of year in the only way that we know how; singing and harmonising together,” King Hannah say of their new holiday cover. “Traditionally a love song about spending Christmas alone and longing for lost loved ones, we hope that our simple arrangement of just two vocals and one 60’s Gibson acoustic guitar enhances the romance and peacefulness that this time of year brings on cold, silent winter nights.”

SNOOP DOGG – “OUTTA DA BLUE” (ft. DR. DRE & ALUS)
Missionary, Snoop Dogg’s first Dr. Dre-produced album since Doggystyle, comes out December 13, and one of the songs that also features Dr. Dre rapping is here. It’s called “Outta Da Blue,” and it comes with a hook that interpolates M.I.A.’s “Paper Planes.”

YATSU – “OCTOBER SEVENTH” / WANDERER – “GLASS CHEWER”
Two very different-sounding metallic hardcore bands, Yatsu and Wanderer, have teamed for a split EP due out December 20. Here’s a song from each.

SUNROT / BODY VOID SPLIT
The very heavy Sunrot and Body Void released a split EP in honor of Trans Day of Remembrance, with proceeds from digital sales going to Black Trans Liberation (NYC). It’s a great offering of noise, sludge, and more and finds both bands going as hard as ever.

GRIDIRON – “TALK REAL”
Gridiron, the rapcore band who share members with Never Ending Game, Scarab, Simulakra, and other hardcore bands, have signed to Blue Grape Music (Code Orange, Gel, Superheaven) and they announced some Northeast shows happening the week between Christmas and New Year’s with the great Trapped Under Ice. They’re set to put out a new album in spring 2025 (details TBA), and they’ve just released a new single, “Talk Real.” Read more here.
