So many artists, so many songs, so little time. Each week we review a handful of new albums (of all genres), round up even more new music that we’d call “indie,” and talk about what metal is coming out. We post music news, track premieres, and more all day. We update a playlist weekly of some of our current favorite tracks. Here’s a daily roundup with a bunch of interesting, newly released songs in one place.
STRAND OF OAKS – “ANANDA”
Strand of Oaks’ new album Miracle Focus comes out this Friday (6/7), and it sees him toying with a handful of different styles of music that he doesn’t usually toy with. Here’s the trippy, electronic “Ananda.”

CANDY – “DREAMS LESS SWEET”
Candy’s new album It’s Inside You comes out Friday (6/7), and today they’ve given us one more taste in the form of sludgy hardcore song “Dreams Less Sweet.”

URIKA’S BEDROOM – “XTC”
Ahead of his tour with Nourished by Time, urika’s bedroom shared his first music for True Panther Records, the woozy “XTC.”

SECT – “LOVERS OF LIFE”
We just named vegan straightedge supergroup SECT’s (members of Cursed, Earth Crisis, Catharsis, Fall Out Boy, Racetraitor, etc) “New Low” one of the best punk songs of May today, and we also just got a second new single from the album, which comes out this Friday (6/7) via Southern Lord.

QUEEN OF JEANS – “BITTER PILL”
Queen of Jeans’ new album All Again comes out later this month, and they’ve given us another early taste with “Bitter Pill.” “This one is a real ripper and an absolute blast to play,” they say, “and we’re so ready to add it to our upcoming shows! If this song doesn’t make you want to throw shit idk what other song of ours will lol.”

M83 – “OCEANS NIAGARA” (SOFT MOON REMIX)
The Soft Moon’s Luis Vasquez died back in January and one of the final piece of music he had been working on has now been released — this remix of M83’s “Ocean’s Niagara.” It’s part of the new deluxe edition of M83’s Fantasy.

FANCY GAP – “LITTLE HEART RACER”
“This one sort of fell out of the sky honestly,” The Love Language’s Stuart McLamb says of the newest single from Fancy Gap, his duo with Charles Crossingham. “It was one of the many ideas we came up with Charles on guitar and me on drums–I seem to come up with my best melodies while playing drums. It was tracked fairly soon after that and I love that there’s such an immediacy to it. At first I thought some lines could be placeholders, but in the moment they really meant something to me and we agreed the delivery was so sincere that we should leave them alone and not overthink it. It’s mostly about leaving the city and all the stress that comes with it for a simpler life out in the cut. Lines like ‘we could make up a new scene’ was me fantasizing about my future in the music scene, not that there really is one anymore (at least like there used to be). It just felt stale and I was looking for a new voice and a new thing. You can hear me discovering this sorta country drawl in real time since this was all sung pretty much the second I had some words to say. ‘Flowers and planters’ was me thinking about my new girl at the time, who would go on to be my wife. I was envisioning this commune on the mountain with people I love by my side making music and living the life we wanted. I always loved Paul Simon’s writing, and this has a bit of that every-emotion-all-at-once kind of thing. But most importantly, it’s fun.” It’s from their self-titled debut album.

BONNY DOON – “CLOCK KEEPS TICKING”
Just ahead of their European tour, Bonny Doon have shared this new single. “Clock keeps ticking, I don’t know, it’s as simple as that,” says the band’s Bill Lennox. “We’ve been through a lot the past few years and it seems like there’s barely time to process it. But you keep going and a lot keeps happening and yet there’s all these things you may never get to. So it’s celebration, it’s grief, and it’s holding on to dreams all living together.”

SAM JR. – INNER SHADOW
Broken Social Scene member Sam Jr. released his sophomore solo album, Inner Shadow, via Arts & Crafts. It features Tess Parks on “Get Found,” and Sam says, “My inspiration for writing songs was sparked by the easygoing nature of ‘The Dude’ from The Big Lebowski. I wanted to capture that spirit in my music. Despite our challenges, I believe in embracing optimism and mellow vibes, and I want that to resonate in my songs.”

CARIBOU – “BROKE MY HEART”
Caribou are back with another joyous new single that, like “Honey” from earlier this year, was made with Four Tet. “I always find it hard to believe those ‘it came to me in a dream’ stories about songs arriving fully formed,” says Caribou’s Dan Snaith, “but this one was pretty close to that, which is not how it usually goes for me. I sat down at a piano one day and the string riff was just there at my fingertips and the vocal melody followed right behind it. I wish they all happened like that.”

FAT DOG – “I AM THE KING”
Here’s another preview of UK band Fat Dog’s upcoming debut album. “It was written in the toilets of the Wetherspoons pub in Forest Hill,” says frontman Joe Love and if that doesn’t make you want to listen we don’t know what will. WOOF is out September 6 via Domino.

PIXIES – “YOU’RE SO IMPATIENT’ & “QUE SERA SERA” (DORIS DAY COVER)
Pixies have shared their first music recorded with new bassist Emma Richardson (who replaced Paz Lenchantin in March). It’s a double A-side featuring new original “You’re So Impatient” (which sounds very Pixies) and a spooky cover of Doris Day’s hit “Que Sera Sera” from Hitchcock film The Man Who Knew Too Much that has been significantly altered with an all new melody.

CLOTHING (DAWN OF MIDI / MOBIUS BAND) – “STILL POINT” FT L’RAIN
Clothing, the duo project of Aakaash Israni of Dawn of Midi and Ben Sterling of Mobius Band/Cookies, have announced their debut album, From Memory, which will be out July 26 via Water Level. They’ve been working on and off over the last decade on these songs, with the long gestation period due in part from trying to find the right vocal collaborators. New single “Still Point” features L’Rain.

BOTTOM BRACKET – “UNSAVORY”
Bottom Bracket are a mathy emo band who hail from the always-strong mathy emo hotbed of Chicago, and they just signed to a label that’s been dedicated to this kind of music for almost two decades, Count Your Lucky Stars. Their first single for the label is “Unsavory,” which you can read about here.
