So many artists, so many songs, so little time. Each week we review a handful of new albums (of all genres), round up even more new music that we’d call “indie,” and talk about what metal is coming out. We post music news, track premieres, and more all day. We update a playlist weekly of some of our current favorite tracks. New York metallic hardcore vets All Out War have shared a cover of a band who helped pave the way for them back in the day, Nausea.

FRED AGAIN.. – “LIGHT DARK LIGHT” & “LITTLE MYSTERY”
Fred again.. has shared two new songs: “Light Dark Light,” which samples Australian singer Angie McMahon’s 2023 song “Making It Through,” and “Little Mystery,” which samples the late, legendary singer/songwriter John Martyn’s 1980 song “Sweet Little Mystery.”

EN ATTENDANT ANA – “CLOSE YOUR MOUTH BECAUSE CHRISTMAS IS THE DAY” (FREE DESIGN COVER) & “FAIRYTALE OF NEW YORK” (POGUES COVER)
“We couldn’t resist a go at the traditional Christmas disk,” say Parisian band En Attendant Ana. “So here are our versions of the tracks of Free Design and one of the Pogues, with some other little classic references to check out.” Better than your average indie rock Christmas covers.

DANIEL BLUMBERG (EX-YUCK) – THE BRUTALIST (ORIGINAL MOTION PICTURE SOUNDTRACK)
Daniel Blumberg used to lead fuzzy indie pop band Yuck, but these days he’s a composer and wrote the score for Brady Corbet’s new film The Brutalist which was just nominated for a Best Score Golden Globe (and the film shaping up to be a serious Oscar contender). His score, which features improvisational work with German trumpeter Axel Dörner, British saxophonist Evan Parker, and more was nominated for a Golden Globe.

SWEET PILL – “CUT” (UNRAVELED)
Philly emo band Sweet Pill have announced an acoustic EP, Unraveled, due January 31 via Hopeless, and they’ll also celebrate with a special, one-off seated show at Philly’s Underground Arts on January 30. The first single is this gorgeous rendition of “Cut.” Read more about the EP here.

REBA MEYERS – “CERTAIN UNCERTAINTY”
Code Orange bassist/occasional lead vocalist Reba Meyers (who also used to front the band Adventures) has released her debut solo single, along with the news that she’s expecting to release her first solo album in spring of 2025.

GLORILLA – “XMAS TIME” (ft. KEHLANI)
GloRilla and Kehlani have teamed up for a rap/R&B Christmas song.

BRAD LANER (MEDICINE) – DEATH DIRGE FOR AMERICA
Medicine’s Brad Laner is back with an EP of glitchy beats, chilled-out ambience and some noise.

TRENT REZNOR, ATTICUS ROSS & BJ BURTON – “VASTER THAN EMPIRES” (FT ALAN SPARHAWK)
Trent Reznor & Atticus Ross of Nine Inch Nails composed the score for Luca Guadagnino’s new film Queer. It features closing credits song “Vaster Than Empires” which has lead vocals by Brazilian music legend Caetano Veloso. They’ve now shared a remix of that song featuring Low’s Alan Sparhawk on lead vocals and musician and producer BJ Burton. It’s weirder, darker and very cool.

JULIEN BAKER & TORRES – “SUGAR IN THE TANK”
The debut single from Julien Baker and Torres’ new country project has finally officially arrived, and you can read more about it here.

BEN KWELLER – “OPTIMYSTIC”
Cover the Mirrors is Ben Kweller’s first album since the death of his son in 2023 and features MJ Lenderman, Waxahatchee and The Flaming Lips. “This is the most personal, emotionally raw project I’ve ever worked on,” says Ben.

PINK SIIFU – “WHOUWITHHO+” (ft. KAL BANX)
The ever-shapeshifting rapper Pink Siifu has announced a new album, BLACK’!ANTIQUE, along with the release of new single “WHOUWITHHO+.” Read more here.
