13 New Songs Out Today

So many artists, so many songs, so little time. Each week we review a handful of new albums (of all genres), round up even more new music that we’d call “indie,” and talk about what metal is coming out. We post music news, track premieres, and more all day. We update a playlist weekly of some of our current favorite tracks. Here’s a daily roundup with a bunch of interesting, newly released songs in one place.

MADEON FT SLAYYYTER – “FIRE AWAY”

Nu-sleaze star Slayyyter gets along with the French very well. She appeared on Sebastien Tellier’s album from earlier this year and now here she is featuring on the first single from French producer Madeon’s new album Victory that’s out June 26 via Mom+Pop. Says Madeon: “‘Fire Away’ is perhaps the most anthemic record on the album. It’s a song about love as warfare, words like weapons of the brokenhearted. Slayyyter embodied the other side of the story and her voice took the song to another level, her performance has so much confidence and attitude, she’s electric.”

SPARTA – “EVERYTHING YOU SAY”

“The music for this was brought in by Matt [Miller] to the earliest writing sessions at my house in El Paso, tweaked in a hotel room in Oklahoma City and played at a soundcheck that night,” Sparta frontman Jim Ward says of “Everything You Say,” the latest single off their new album Cut a Silhouette. “It is one of those songs that takes shape early and no matter how you adjust, it just keeps ending up back where it started. I love it. This is a dreamy song about longing and love. A big scream declaring desire.”

BAXTER DURY – “ALLBARONE” (MEAL DEAL MIX BY PARROT & COCKER TOO)

Sometimes a beat is just too good to be used once. Sheffield, UK legend DJ Parrot released his awesome cover of Thelma Houston’s “Don’t Leave Me This Way” last year and now the banging backing track has been repurposed (again) for this remix of Baxter Dury’s “Albarone” that’s credited to Parrot & Cocker Too, aka his DJ duo with Jarvis Cocker.

HEY ILY – “UGLY ON THE INSIDE (& OUT)” & “ANENDLESSLISTOFNAMESBURNEDINTOMYPHONESCREEN”

Genre-blurring, chiptuney emo band Hey, Ily have begun a “new era” with a pair of singles, and they say, “LP3 is underway.”

SHINGAI (NOISETTES) – “MHONDORO” FT NADINE SHAH

The Noisettes’ bassist Shingai will release new album Flow later this year and this is teh first single which features British singer-songwriter Nadine Shah.

BLEACHERS – “I’M NOT JOKING”

Bleachers have given us another preview of their new album everyone for ten minutes with the jaunty “i’m not joking.”

GUN OUTFIT – “WHIPLASH”

Gun Outfit’s Carrie Keith says, “Just beneath the surface there’s another world – this one chord song came from there, nothing written, just an intuition, we recorded the only take.” New album Process and Reality is out May 7.

MANDAWORLD – “MY WHITE HORSE”

Bedroom/alt-pop artist Mandaworld has shared a new single ahead of Bandcamp Friday, which follows her 2023 album For Emotional Use Only.

HAIRCUT 100 – “COME BACK TO ME”

UK new wavers Haircut 100 are gearing up to release their first album in over 40 years in May and here’s a third single from it. “Come Back to Me” is a terrific, sunny pop song.

KELSEY LU – “BETTER THAN THAT” (FT. SAMPHA)

Kelsey Lu’s first album in 7 years, So Help Me God, arrives in June, and they’ve given us another preview with “Better Than That,” a delicate ballad featuring Sampha. Lu says, “I wrote and recorded this song in London back in 2021, after the initial wave of the pandemic. I was sharing a studio out of Damon Albarn’s spot. It all came pouring out one night unwritten and has always held a special place for me. I often end up playing detective on what I was speaking on, and around that time I was really unravelling my sense of purpose both in music and in life in general. This song represents a lot of swirling and at times frustrating internal thoughts, reflections, and contradictions on wanting to feel seen and unseen.”

ABSINTHE FATHER – “YOUR NAME”

Haley Butters has shared a hushed new Absinthe Father single, “your name,” ahead of Bandcamp Friday, and says there will be “a few more” added to it tomorrow.

JPEGMAFIA – “BABYGIRL”

It’s the first taste of JPEGMAFIA’s upcoming album EXPERIMENTAL RAP.
