So many artists, so many songs, so little time. Each week we review a handful of new albums (of all genres), round up even more new music that we’d call “indie,” and talk about what metal is coming out. We post music news, track premieres, and more all day. We update a playlist weekly of some of our current favorite tracks. Here’s a daily roundup with a bunch of interesting, newly released songs in one place.
JILL SCOTT – “PRESSHA”
Jill Scott announced her first album in 11 years To Whom This May Concern last week with the excellent, ’70s soul-inspired lead single “Beautiful People,” and today she shares a second single, “Pressha,” which finds her navigating murkier, gooier R&B waters.

FATHER JOHN MISTY – “THE OLD LAW”
Father John Misty has shared his first new music since his great 2024 album Mahashmashana. “The Old Law” was previously known as “God’s Trash” when it appeared in his live sets.

EXHUMED – “UNSAFE AT ANY SPEED”
Gore masters Exhumed have announced a new album, Red Asphalt, due February 20 via Relapse. The beastly new single “Unsafe At Any Speed” comes with a lengthy music video that basically doubles as a short film.

GIRL SCOUT – “OPERATOR”
“It’s really just a dumb song, isn’t it?” adds Girl Scout’s Emma Jansson says of the latest single off the band’s upcoming debut album Brink. “A dumb guitar riff, dumb lyrics and a dumb beat, and we love it just the way it is. I have no idea where the inspiration behind the lyrics came from, I have no relationship to switchboard operators and they haven’t been around since before I was born. But wouldn’t it be fun if they were still around and they sounded really hot over the phone?”

IDK – “LIFE 4 A LIFE” (ft. PUSHA T, prod. KAYTRANADA)
Maryland rapper IDK has a new project called E.T.D.S. arriving on January 23, and today he shared its new single. “LiFE 4 A LiFE” is an ominous rap song with psychedelic production from Kaytranada and a perfectly-matched guest verse from Pusha T.

AUGUST PONTHIER – “I’M CRYING, ARE YOU?”
Having collaborated with Lord Huron and released a few EPs, Brooklyn-via-Texas artist August Ponthier is releasing their debut full-length album, Everywhere Isn’t Texas, on February 13 via Nowhereland Sounds. The latest single is “I’m Crying, Are You?,” which they say is “about the injustice of someone absolutely fucking you up and then happily moving on.” They add, “Sure, this could be an elevated song from a birds’-eye-view about how the good guy always wins, but isn’t it more fun to complain and dance?”

MAYHEM – “LIFE IS A CORPSE YOU DRAG”
Black metal legends Mayhem’s new album Liturgy Of Death‘s February 6 release date is approaching, and today they’re tiding us over with a new single that finds them in delightfully evil form.

KONRADSEN – “EFFICIENCY” FT. BEHARIE
Norwegian folk duo Konradesen are teasing a new body of work that arrives later this year, and “Efficiency,” which features Beharie, is the second preview. “‘Efficiency’ portrays a kind of love that isn’t always immediate or all-consuming, but one that endures nonetheless — a relationship where time, patience, and a willingness to see the beauty in each other’s imperfections are essential,” they say. “It touches on a phase many people recognize: when the distance between two people can feel greater than before, yet the bond remains strong.”

THE OUTFIT (DANIEL ROMANO) – “AUTOPOEIT”
Daniel Romano’s band The Outfit have announced a new album, Preservers of the Pearl, due March 13 via You’ve Changed Records. They’re usually known as “Daniel Romano’s Outfit” but this one is reportedly more of a collaborative effort with bandmates Ian Romano, Carson McHone, and Tommy Major, hence the slight band name change. The first single is a psych-rock jam called “Autopoiet.”

MUMFORD & SONS – “THE BANJO SONG”
“The Banjo Song” is the latest taste of Mumford & Sons’ new album Prizefighter. They co-wrote it with Aaron Dessner of The National and Jon Bellion.

THE MESSTHETICS & JAMES BRANDON LEWIS – “GESTATIONS”
The Messthetics (the jazz trio featuring Fugazi‘s rhythm section of Joe Lally and Brendan Canty, plus guitarist Anthony Pirog) and saxophonist James Brandon Lewis have announced another collaborative album, following their excellent self-titled collab LP from 2024. The new LP is called Deface The Currency, and the lead single is “Gestations.” Read more here.
