So many artists, so many songs, so little time. Each week we review a handful of new albums (of all genres), round up even more new music that we’d call “indie,” and talk about what metal is coming out. We post music news, track premieres, and more all day. We update a playlist weekly of some of our current favorite tracks. Here’s a daily roundup with a bunch of interesting, newly released songs in one place.
NELLIE MCKAY – “DAVID” (DEMO)
Nellie McKay has announced Gee Whiz: The Get Away From Me Demos, an 18-track collection of previously unissued and self-produced demos of songs that would end up on her great 2005 album Get Away From Me. She’s shared her demo of “David” which sounds pretty good even in this less polished form.

FLORIST – “JELLYFISH”
Florist shared a final advance single ahead of the release of their new album Jellywish this Friday. “‘Jellyfish’ is presented as an upbeat song with a darker undertone of frantically wondering how doomed we really are, what our lifetimes may bring, and what we can do about it,” Emily Sprague says. “It marvels at the mysteries of our world while also mourning the destruction of so much of it by the hands of humans. ‘Jellyfish’ draws a connecting line between our very minds and the natural world, attempting to establish an important theme of this song and record which is: rethinking what is normalized so we can be more symbiotic with each other and the Earth. The song ends its musing with a reminder to the listener of our power centers, that we are deserving of happiness and love: ‘destroy the feeling you are not enough.’ This is mirroring an earlier lyric: ‘destroy everything on earth,’ which is an observation of how things seem to be, but shouldn’t have to be, and must be challenged.”

SALLY SHAPIRO – “GUARDING SHELL”
“‘Guarding Shell’ is a track in a super classic Sally Shapiro style,” Sally Shapiro say of the second single from upcoming album Ready To Live A Lie. “On at least one track per album, we feel it’s nice to go back to our roots and our interpretation of italo disco, where it all started for us. Just because we love this style of music so much. The theme here is daring to trust someone after having been hurt. We asked music video editor Iris Beatrix to edit a music video out of a Japanese anime that we thought fit perfectly to the theme and feeling of the track.”

L’ECLAIR – “ODESSOS” FT PHOEBE COCO & A GHOST COLUMN
L’Eclair, the Swiss group led by Bulgarian brothers Stef and Yavor Lilov, have announced new album Cloud Drifter that will be out June 20 via Innovative Leisure. It’s their first vocal album and singers include Pink Siifu, Girl Named Golden, Gelli Haha and more. Here’s the first single featuring Phoebe Coco & A Ghost Column.

ERIN DURANT – “CASTLE ROCK”
Erin Durant has shared a gorgeously folky piano ballad from her upcoming album Firetrail, due May 16 via Ruination Record Co.

GRAHAM HUNT – “EAST SIDE SCREAMER”
Graham Hunt signed to Run For Cover, who will release his new album Timeless World Forever on June 13. New single “East Side Screamer” is a mix of art rock weirdness and punky swagger.

LOCKSTEP – “DRAG ALONG”
Nashville heavy shoegaze band Lockstep have dropped a new single. Fans of Cloakroom, Nothing, etc, take note.

PET SYMMETRY – “BIG MILEAGE”
Chicago emo/punk trio Pet Symmetry–aka Evan Weiss (Into It. Over It.), Marcus Nuccio (Ratboys), and Erik Czaja (Dowsing)–have been rolling out singles that all have titles beginning with the word “Big,” and today they released a fourth and announced a new album. The new song is called “Big Mileage” and the album is called Big Symmetry. Read more here.
