So many artists, so many songs, so little time. Each week we review a handful of new albums (of all genres), round up even more new music that we’d call “indie,” and talk about what metal is coming out. We post music news, track premieres, and more all day. We update a playlist weekly of some of our current favorite tracks. Here’s a daily roundup with a bunch of interesting, newly released songs in one place.
YANNIS & THE YAW – “RAIN CAN’T REACH US” FT TONY ALLEN
Foals’ Yannis Philippakis will release his EP with the late Tony Allen at the end of August and has shared another song from it. “We actually referred to ‘Rain Can’t Reach Us; as ‘The Tornado’ for a long time because it feels like a gale blowing through your house and it’s just cool to hear Tony at the heart of that. There’s a chance it could have become a Foals track, but sharing that idea with Tony made it become this other thing. I think that’s really exciting, it’s like putting in random coordinates, getting in your car and driving and not knowing where you’re going to show up. You could be led anywhere.”

PERFUME GENIUS – “ALL AROUND ME NOW” & “SWEETER”
Perfume Genius contributed a pair of new songs to the soundtrack of National Anthem, a film directed by Luke Gilford, who did the artwork and cover images for Perfume Genius’ 2014 album Too Bright.

DUMMY – “NINE CLEAN NAILS”
“Nine Clean Nails” is powered by a wonderfully motorik rhythm section that allows the melody, guitar and vocals to soar into the ether. Dummy’s new album Free Energy is out September 6.

MARY LATTIMORE – “I SPENT THE DAY INSIDE”
Harpist and composer Mary Lattimore is back with this lovely new song, a nine-minute delicate and introspective work.

CRYOGEYSER – “SORRY”
“‘Sorry’ is the song that plays at the pool party your ex is at,” Cryogeyser guitarist and vocalist Shawn Marom says of the band’s new single, which is their first with drummer Zach CapittiFenton and bassist Samson Klitsner . “The rage and discomfort become an internal war, asking yourself, ‘Did I do the best I could? Could I have done it differently?’ ‘Sorry’ is about not being sorry. It’s a tongue in cheek homage to the intricacies of relationships and communication, especially in conflict. ‘Sorry’ reminds you to be yourself, forgive yourself, and embrace yourself. Welcome change but never change. It also touches on the expectations we put on others, ourselves, and our artistic practices. Wondering if the failure or rejection could ever be avoided. If we knew then, what we know now, things would be much different than this.”

MAN/WOMAN/CHAINSAW – “ODE TO CLIO”
“We thrive on the thin line between pretty and noisy, often trying to jump between the two,” say London art punk group Man/Woman/Chainsaw of their sound. “It’s that chaos that excites us.” You can definitely hear that dichotomy in “Ode to Clio,” their upcoming EP’s lead single that is named for the band’s violinist. It starts as windswept folk rock but builds to a maelstrom by the end, complete with some very wild guitar sounds.

ROBBER ROBBER – “HOW WE BALL”
Burlington, VT band Robber Robber‘s debut album Wild Guess is out this week and have shared one last single before we get the whole album. “How We Ball” is a sneering post-punk ripper that’s another showcase for the band’s adept, inventive and powerful rhythm section, not to mention some searing leads.

ENVY – “BEYOND THE RAINDROPS”
Envy have announced a new album, Eunoia, and they get shoegazy on lead single “Beyond the Raindrops.” Read more here.
