So many artists, so many songs, so little time. Each week we review a handful of new albums (of all genres), round up even more new music that we’d call “indie,” and talk about what metal is coming out. We post music news, track premieres, and more all day. We update a playlist weekly of some of our current favorite tracks. Here’s a daily roundup with a bunch of interesting, newly released songs in one place.
PAUL WELLER – “WHAT WAS I MADE FOR?” (BILLIE EILISH COVER)
Paul Weller just released his terrific new solo album 66 and promoting it brought him to the BBC Radio 2 where he recorded a “Sofa Session.” In addition to his own songs, he covered Billie Eilish’s Oscar-winning “What Was I Made For?” from Barbie. “It’s such a beautiful song, and the melody’s incredible,” he told the Beeb’s Jo Whiley. “And the words – I think it’s just a great tune.”

ASKYSOBLACK – “CAROUSEL HOUSE”
ASkySoBlack have shared another single off their upcoming debut album Touch Heaven, and this one finds them getting a little heavier than the last track did. Deftones fans, take note.

SOPHIE POWERS – “AWESOME” FT. BABY TATE
Sophie Powers’ new EP, Glitch: Lvl 1 is out next month, and she’s given us another early taste with “Awesome,” featuring Baby Tate. “sophie powers + baby tate = 2 powerful girls who ate on this track,” Sophie writes.

GIL CERRONE – “GOLDEN AGE”
Australian screamo band Gil Cerrone are releasing the Consumer LP on July 12 via No Funeral/Tomb Tree Tapes, and new single “Golden Age” is a great mix of harsh fury and melodic beauty that clocks in at just under two minutes.

HUNDRED WATERS – TOWERS
Hundred Waters are back with their first new music since 2018, Towers, “a collection of demos unearthed from the era of the moon rang like a bell.”

VICTORIA MONÉT – “POWER OF TWO”
R&B singer and songwriter Victoria Monét followed up a decade-plus-long career with her first full-length album, Jaguar II, last year, and the album and its single “On My Mama” led to her biggest breakthrough yet. Now she’s got a new song for Disney+’s Star Wars series The Acolyte, “Power of Two.”

REMI WOLF – “MOTORCYCLE”
“Lyrically the song dives into this internal dichotomy I experience a lot in my life,” Remi Wolf says of the new single from her upcoming album Big Ideas. “One side of me is always wanting to slow down and settle down and be in love and be normal and have babies and shit, while the other, very forceful, part of me needs to be restlessly independent and stubborn and free. The song is essentially a fantasy about me living in a reality where both sides of me can exist simultaneously……. Secret lives of the wives of Harley Davidson type….”

SAINT JAMES – “JORDAN BOX” (ft. ROME STREETZ & ESTEE NACK)
Producer Saint James tapes Rome Streetz and Estee Nack for a dose of gritty, eerie boom bap.

TAYLA PARX – “ERA” FT. TKAY MAIDZA
Tourmates Tayla Parx and Tkay Maidza on collaborate on the latest single from Tayla’s new album, Many Moons, Many Suns, due out on July 12 via TaylaMade Records. Tayla calls it a “pivotal track that echoes the theme of personal evolution following a breakup. This song, a collaboration with the talented Tkay Maidza, delves into rediscovering and reclaiming one’s sense of self. It captures the essence of transformation—how it looks, feels, and ultimately uplifts. It’s a bop!”

HELL BEACH – “POISON MIND”
New Hampshire punks Hell Beach have announced a new album, BEACHWORLD, due August 9 via Bad Time Records’ punk imprint Uncle Style Records. It was produced and mixed with We Are The Union’s Reade Wolcott, and lead single “Poison Mind” is a snotty pop punk song that sounds straight out of the late ’90s.

THE BLESSED MADONNA – “COUNT ON MY LOVE” FT. YUKI KANESAKA
“The whistling is just Daniel Wilson on a hot demo mic,” The Blessed Madonna says of her new single, which also features KON. “He whistles in session to practice or find melodies and it just fit so well. The piano interlude was Yuki being asked to play it like Bruce Hornsby, which is amazing. At the end of the session with KON and Yuki, I literally took all the magnificent jazz and funk playing, ran it through two distortion units and added a 909 on top, and I was like ‘I swear this is gonna to be a good one’.”

TONY MARTINEZ – “CRAZY” (ft. YELAWOLF)
Country singer Tony Martinez has announced his debut album, Everywhere West, which was co-produced by country rapper Yelawolf and comes out on August 16 via Yelawolf’s Slumerican label. The rapper also provides some brief guest vocals on the catchy lead single “Crazy.”

PAINTED SHIELD – “WINDOW”
Stone Gossard, Matt Chamberlain, Mason Jennings, Britany Davis, and Jeff Fielder are releasing their new album as Painted Shield, Painted Shield 3, next month (pre-order on bone vinyl), and they’ve shared new single “Window.” “I had the basic idea for the song ‘Window’ and Stone suggested I take the chords out and just send the vocal line to Brittany Davis with single bass notes played on a keyboard,” Jennings says. “They added incredible piano voicings and vocal harmonies and the song really just expanded from there as everyone laid down their magic.”

EARTH TONGUE – “NIGHTMARE”
New Zealand psych-rock duo Earth Tongue just released their new album Great Haunting via In the Red and they’ve just shared this new single and its rather phantasmagoric video.

THE CACTUS BLOSSOMS – “EVERY TIME I THINK ABOUT YOU” & “THERE SHE GOES”
Minnesota duo The Cactus Blossoms, who you might remember from Twin Peaks: The Return, will release new album Every Time I Think About You on August 30 via their own Walkie Talkie Records. They’ve shared the title track which, like a lot of their music, recalls the haunting harmonies of the Everly Brothers, plus the more rocking “There She Goes” (not a La’s cover).

CREED BRATTON – “CORNER OF THE UNIVERSE”
Creed Bratton, the former The Office castmember and member of ’60s band The Grass Roots, will release his 10th solo album, Tao Pop, on September 27. The album’s new single is “Corner Of The Universe” which might appeal to fans of Randy Newman, Harry Nilsson and…The Office.

ALISON MOYET (YAZOO) – “SUCH SMALL ALE” & “ALL CRIED OUT (KEY VERSION)”
Alison Moyet, who scored ’80s hits as one half of synthpop band Yazoo (Yaz in North America) and as a solo artist, has announced a new album, Key, which will be out October 4. The album, which also celebrates her 40th year as a solo artist, features brand new versions of 16 singles, and other songs from her career. Says Alison, “I wanted to take the opportunity to look at the trajectory of the past four decades and explore songs that, in their original form, were never fully realised or have had their relevance to me altered by time.” Check out her new version of “All Cried Out” and new song “Such Small Ale.”
