So many artists, so many songs, so little time. Each week we review a handful of new albums (of all genres), round up even more new music that we’d call “indie,” and talk about what metal is coming out. We post music news, track premieres, and more all day. We update a playlist weekly of some of our current favorite tracks. Here’s a daily roundup with a bunch of interesting, newly released songs in one place.
WISP – “BREATHE ONTO ME”
Wisp’s awaited debut album If Not Winter is out in a couple weeks and here’s the final single before the whole thing drops. “‘Breathe onto me’ is a fun play on affection, touch, and love on the surface,” Wisp says. “It’s about the simplicity of physical relationships and how they can totter between innocent and lustful.”

ALKALINE TRIO – “OBLIVION”
Alkaline Trio’s new single is the first of three they recently recorded with blink-182’s Travis Barker, and their first studio recording with drummer Atom Willard. “I don’t think I’ve ever had such a great time in the studio,” Matt Skiba says. “We’d wanted to get into the studio with Atom as soon as he’d joined the band and we finally found the time to do it. The idea to work with Travis came to me after guesting on a project he was producing at his studio. I was blown away by how natural and amazing Travis is in the role of a producer and by the beauty and serenity of his studio. We had initially gone in thinking we would do a cover we’d been playing with, to take the pressure off of our first recording with Atom but ended up with three new songs. I already knew how great Travis is in the studio (from my time with Blink), beyond his great drumming and unique and out-of-the-box songwriting abilities. His vision and talent is the perfect fit for us. I am a drummer at heart so having Atom and Travis working in tandem as drummers and songwriters was absolute heaven for me. Working with two of my favorite drummers was surreal and dreamlike, never mind two of my favorite people in the world. I told Travis that it really feels like he is our fourth member on this.”

SNAPPED ANKLES – DANCING IN TRANSIT: LIVE 2025
London forest dwelling dance-rock outfit Snapped Ankles, who released the fantastic Hard Times Furious Dancing earlier this year, have released a live album, Dancing in Transit, which was records across many of their Forest Rayve club nights earlier this year. It’s a free download from their bandcamp.

RAKIM – “NOT TO BE DEFINED” FT. LAZARUS
Rakim is releasing a new project, The Re-Up, on August 29 via Laz Army/Compound Interest, and the first single is “Not To Be Defined,” featuring Lazarus and produced by Dem Jointz.

ARAABMUZIK – “3 AM”
Producer and beatmaker AraabMuzik has announced Electronic Dream 2 which will be out August 1 via Genre Defying Entertainment/D Productions. The first single is the ethereal, spacey “3 AM.”

KING ULTRAMEGA – “RUSTY CAGE” (SOUNDGARDEN COVER)
A Covid-era collaborative cover featuring Alice in Chains’ William DuVall, Mastodon’s Bill Kelliher, Metal Allegiance’s Mark Menghi, and Anthrax’s Charlie Benante now has an official release under the name King Ultramega, to pay tribute to Chris Cornell ahead of what would’ve been his 61st birthday.

BRAINWASHER (MEM. FLAMING LIPS) – “AT LEAST IT BEATS AN ACTOR”
Brainwasher, a group which includes Matthew Duckworth Kirksey and Tommy McKenzie who are both in The Flaming Lips, have announced album 39 Lightyears from Heaven which will be out October 24 via Mothland. They are defnitely psychedelic as you can hear on this single but they don’t sound like The Lips. Wayne Coyne was nice enough to direct the video though.

SHERYL CROW & THE REAL LOWDOWN – “THE NEW NORMAL”
Sheryl Crow and her longtime touring band, The Real Lowdown, respond to our dystopian reality with their new single. “What’s happening all around us is so unbelievably bizarre, that my fear is we will truly begin to feel like this is normal,” Sheryl says. “And that’s what terrifies me.”

JASON ISBELL – “SHOULD I GO MISSING”
Jason Isbell has reissued Something More than Free for its tenth anniversary; it’s out digitally now, and will be available on physical media on Friday, October 3 via Southeastern. It’s been remixed by Sylvia Massy, and it includes a b-side, “Should I Go Missing.”

SILICA GEL – “南宮FEFERE” FT> JAPANESE BREAKFAST
Japanese Breakfast collaborated with South Korean band Silica Gel on their new track. “This was the first time I’ve ever written lyrics in Korean,” Michelle Zauner says, adding, “Anyone who’s familiar with my work knows how much my Korean heritage has come to mean to me, so it was very personal to collaborate with such a revered Korean band and to create something for a larger Korean audience.”

SHE’S GREEN – “WILLOW”
Minneapolis band she’s green announced a new EP, Chrysalis, due out August 15 via Photo Finish Records. The first single is the dreamy, shoegazey “Willow,” which the band says “reflects on our dying relationship with the natural world—a relationship that’s not always loving, but formative nonetheless. It’s an energetic song that we love playing live.”

THE ACACIA STRAIN – “A CALL BEYOND”
