So many artists, so many songs, so little time. Each week we review a handful of new albums (of all genres), round up even more new music that we’d call “indie,” and talk about what metal is coming out. We post music news, track premieres, and more all day. We update a playlist weekly of some of our current favorite tracks. Here’s a daily roundup with a bunch of interesting, newly released songs in one place.
NOBLE ROT (METZ / HOLY FUCK) – “HANG ON”
The collaborative duo of Alex Edkins (METZ) and Graham Walsh (Holy Fuck) started as a purely studio project but with METZ retired, Noble Rot seems to be becoming more of a real thing. They’re opening for FACS in Toronto and have just shared this excellent new single.

STEVE VON TILL – “THE CORPSE ROAD”
Neurosis co-leader Steve Von Till’s new solo album is out next month, and the latest single is “The Corpse Road,” a brooding track with eerie atmospherics.

PISSED JEANS – “WAVES OF FEAR” (LOU REED COVER)
Say Pissed Jeans’s Matt Korvette of their stab at Lou Reed’s 1982 song “Waves of Fear”: “The seasick bass riff that centers ‘Waves Of Fear’ is one of my all-time favorites, so we had to take a stab at this paranoid, self-loathing classic. I yell ‘take it Crystal!’ at the end because Crystal Waters frequently records in the same studio we had recorded in, and we were hopeful she might ad-lib some soulful vocals at the end, the next time she stopped by. Sadly it did not pan out.”

SUMAC & MOOR MOTHER – “SCENE 4”
SUMAC and Moor Mother’s anticipated collaborative album The Film arrives later this month, and they’ve given us another preview of it with the eerie, haunting and powerful “Scene 4.”

LITRONIX – “CHOKE THE SMOKE”
LA artist Litronix (Kevin Litrow) will release new album One A Day Keeps The Doctor Away on May 2 via Invada, the label run by Geoff Barrow (Portishead/Beak>). Barrow co-produced the album and if you dig weirdo new wave you’ll likely dig “Choke the Smoke.”

MIKE HUGUENOR – “WHAT DO I DO NOW?”
Punk guitarist Mike Huguenor (Hard Girls, Shinobu, Jeff Rosenstock’s band, etc) recorded his new single with two guitars, one acoustic and one electric. “Every so often we’re hit with a moment of great uncertainty, a time when we have to stop and ask ourselves, ‘Well, what the hell do I do now??'” he says. “These moments are like the blank space on a page when one chapter has ended and the next has not yet begun, a passage that feels both infinite and always already almost over. The only thing we can be sure of is that it will lead somewhere new.”

JIM LEGXACY – “STICK”
UK rapper and singer Jim Legxacy follows up last month’s “father” with this new single that features his signature blend of styles.

MURDER BY DEATH – “WANDERING”
Murder by Death detailed what they say is their final album and shared the first single, “Wandering,” which you can read more about here.

KAONASHI – “WHEN I SAY”
Kaonashi announced a new album, I Want To Go Home, and you can read more about it and the first single, “When I Say,” here.

KOKOROKO – “SWEETIE”
The first single from Kokoroko’s new album is an irresistible ray of sunshine, danceable and joyous.

DAVID LONGSTRETH (DIRTY PROJECTORS – “PRELUDE,” “THE POND,” “THE RIVER”
Dirty Projectors frontman David Longstreth has composed the score for upcoming A24 fantasy-adventure film The Legend of Ochi which stars Willem Dafoe, Finn Wolfhard, Emily Watson, and Helena Zengel, and is out April 25. In addition to his orchestral score, there’s also a new Dirty Projectors song, “Through The Long And Lonely Night.” You can listen to three pieces from his score — “Prelude,” “The Pond,” and “The River” — now.
