So many artists, so many songs, so little time. Each week we review a handful of new albums (of all genres), round up even more new music that we’d call “indie,” and talk about what metal is coming out. We post music news, track premieres, and more all day. We update a playlist weekly of some of our current favorite tracks. Here’s a daily roundup with a bunch of interesting, newly released songs in one place.
RAUE – “ESCAPE”
Santa Cruz’s Raue are releasing the too scared to explain EP on May 9 via (Dis)Harmony Recordings, and here’s the grungegazy new single “Escape.” It’s streaming everywhere now, and the video premieres Friday.

GULLY BOYS – “LOVE ME 2”
Minneapolis punks Gully Boys have a sharp, catchy new single called “Love Me 2” and the video stars Justin Courtney Pierre of Motion City Soundtrack.

HOVVDY & RUNO PLUM – “SHOOTING STAR”
Hovvdy teamed up with one of their soon-to-be tourmates, runo plum, for “Shooting Star,” a harmony-laden folk track.

KAONASHI – “FAIRMOUNT PARK AFTER DARK” & “CONFUSION IN A CAR CRASH”
Philly concept-heavy metalcore band Kaonashi continue their story with two new singles, the very chaotic “Fairmount Park After Dark” (which comes with a video) and the sludgy instrumental “Confusion In A Car Crash” (nice).

KILO KISH – “R3PROGRAM”
Kilo Kish announced a new EP, Negotiations, due out May 16 via Independent Co. The first single is the spacey, synthy “r3program,” which has a video produced by Even/Odd. “I love creating project worlds and characters that can represent ideas or metaphors,” Kish says. “The video is kind of a nod to the suits that I used to wear in the Reflections in Real Time era, and a play on this office worker character that I’ve been exploring since 2016 and speaks to the resiliency of the working class.”

MAPPE OF – “HAPPINESS IN THE SINGULARITY”
Toronto artist Mappe Of’s says new single “Happiness in the Singularity” is “a reflection on legacy.” He elaborates: “I had been thinking a lot about the idea of legacy, particularly the way it evolves as technology captures so much of who we are. Our digital legacy is now hard to distinguish from the tangible impact we make on the earth and the people around us. There’s also this middle period of technological history, with physical media like VHS tapes, where if they’re not preserved by other means, they’ll degrade and eventually be lost to time. We’re in this strange moment in history where we’ve witnessed the beginning of a feasibly infinite legacy, where hundreds of years from now, someone could download our digital records and get a decent idea of who we were as people. Comparing that to hundreds of years prior, we really know very little about these historical figures we hold in such high regard, in terms of their actual personalities, the way they carried themselves, the subtleties that define us. I often find myself feeling like our collective obsession with legacy is meaningless, once we’re gone, we’re gone, but at the same time, there is something beautiful in the preservation of the idea of people.”

LAURA MISCH – “ALCHEMY”
UK musician and producer is back with an ethereal new single, “Alchemy,” which she says is “a song about our capacity to alchemise loss into love. It’s a song to send to anyone in the depths of heartbreak or shedding an old self.”

SOCCER MOMMY – “DRIVER (STRIPPED)”
Soccer Mommy shared an alternate version of “Driver” from her 2024 album Evergreen, with lush acoustic instrumentation.

PYNCH – “THE SUPERMARKET”
UK band Pynch, who will be in NYC in March for the New Colossus festival, are back with their first new music in two years. “‘The Supermarket’ is sort of about craving normality and coming out the other side of a chaotic year,” says bandleader Spencer Enock. “I guess it’s a hangover song about choosing life. It’s been one of our favourites since I first sent an acoustic voicenote of it over to the guys so we’re really excited for it to be out!”

ED KUEPPER (THE SAINTS) & JIM WHITE (DIRTY THREE) – “THE CRYING DANCE”
Two Aussie legends — Ed Kuepper (The Saints, The Laughing Clowns) and Jim White (Dirty Three) — are teaming up for After the Flood, which will be out March 21 via 12XU. The album began when they decided to do a few Australian shows together, with Ed reinterpreting songs from throughout his career with White’s unique drumming style. THE HEAD AND THE HEART – “AFTER THE SETTING SUN”
The Head and the Heart announced their sixth album, Aperture, and gave us another preview with “After the Setting Sun,” which you can read more about here.

BACKXWASH – “9TH HEAVEN”
Experimental rapper/producer Backxwash detailed her new album Only Dust Remains and shared a towering new single, “9th Heaven.” Read more about it here.

SPEEDWAY – “PERMISSION TO DREAM” (ft. EKULU’S CHRIS WILSON)
Swedish melodic hardcore band Speedway have announced their debut LP for Revelation Records, A Life’s Refrain. It was produced by Ned & Ben Russin of Title Fight, and Ned (also of Glitterer) is also one of three guest vocalists on the LP, also including Sebastian Murphy of Viagra Boys and Chris Wilson of Ekulu, the latter of whom appears on lead single “Permission To Dream.” Read more here.
