So many artists, so many songs, so little time. Each week we review a handful of new albums (of all genres), round up even more new music that we’d call “indie,” and talk about what metal is coming out. Here’s a daily roundup with a bunch of interesting, newly released songs in one place.
RUNNNER – “COINSTAR”
Run For Cover-signed singer/songwriter Runnner (aka Noah Weinman) kicks off his 2025 with new single “Coinstar,” which he says “about trying merge the parts of me that crave stability and comfort (wanting to one day have a family and settle down and all that) with the parts that want to keep touring and living this kind of exciting troubadour life.”

EVERYTHING IS RECORDED – “SWAMP DREAM #3” FT. MARY IN THE JUNKYARD
The new single from XL Recordings chief Richard Russell’s new album as Everything is Recorded, Temporary, is the eerie, skittering, “Swamp Dream #3,” which features London trio Mary in the Junkyard.

DAMON LOCKS – “HOLDING THE DAWN IN PLACE (BEYOND PT. 2)”
Chicago jazz bandleader (and former Trenchmouth vocalist) Damon Locks has shared his second single off his upcoming album for International Anthem, List of Demands, and it comes with a Rob Shaw-created video that includes Civil Rights-era protest footage and more.

FUST – “SPANGLED”
Durham, NC’s Fust announced a new album, Big Ugly, due out on March 7 via Dear Life Records. About lead single “Spangled,” bandleader Aaron Dowdy says, “I don’t think you can really hear the word ‘spangled’ without thinking about America and its national anthem. I wanted to write a personal, pained kind of national anthem made up of esoteric and American themes like trauma and time out of joint, self-destruction and intoxication, frailty and hubris. It’s an American ghost story, where hurts linger in places long after the buildings and bridges they happened in have disappeared.”

NEW WORLD MAN – “PEELING THROUGH THE SKIN (I WILL RETURN)” & “MURDERWORLD PT. 2 (MURDER IS WHAT’S ON MY MIND)”
New World Man (members of Pain of Truth, Mindforce, Life’s Question, Regulate, and more) are back with two new hardcore/crossover thrash ragers.

ARNY MARGRET – “DAY OLD THOUGHTS”
Arny Margret’s new album I Miss You, I Do arrives in March, and the latest single is “Day Old Thoughts.” “This was recorded here in Iceland last fall,” she says. “The first thing we tried to do was get together the band and do this one slightly differently. It says a lot of things, it’s honest.”

HEARTWORMS – “EXTRAORDINARY WINGS”
Heartworms’ anticipated debut LP arrives next month, and they’ve given us another early taste with “Extraordinary Wings,” which delivers more of the danceable modern post punk of “Warplane.”

MORGAN NAGLER – “CRADLE THE PAIN”
Morgan Nagler, who has co-written songs for Phoebe Bridgers, The Breeders, Haim, and Madi Diaz, has shared her debut solo single, which you can read more about here.

JAMES BRANDON LEWIS TRIO – “PRINCE EUGENE”
Saxophonist James Brandon Lewis teamed up with Fugazi offshoot The Messthetics for one of last year’s best jazz albums, and now he’s gearing up to release a James Brandon Lewis Trio (with Chad Taylor on drums/mbira and Josh Werner on bass/guitar) album, Apple Cores, on 2/7 via ANTI-.
