So many artists, so many songs, so little time. Each week we review a handful of new albums (of all genres), round up even more new music that we’d call “indie,” and talk about what metal is coming out. We post music news, track premieres, and more all day. We update a playlist weekly of some of our current favorite tracks. Here’s a daily roundup with a bunch of interesting, newly released songs in one place.
JON HOPKINS – “FOREVER HELD” FT ÓLAFUR ARNALDS
Jon Hopkins is having quite a year. He contributed to Charli XCX’s Brat and it’s completely different but also still brat, and now here’s a song featuring string arrangements by Ólafur Arnalds that was made for NASA’s Space for Earth immersive experience. “I took this opportunity to create a full orchestral piece,” says Hopkins. “I wanted to make something timeless that would transmit the feeling of being ‘held’ by the Earth. I was thinking about the fragility and power of our planet, and of the human race’s role in its own destiny.”

MARY TIMONY – “CURIOUS TIDES”
Mary Timony has shared new song “Curious Tides,” which stems from the Untame the Tiger sessions. “The first half of the song is a demo I sort of very lazily made in my basement about 15 years ago when I was between bands,” Mary says. “I kind of forgot about it because it seemed unfinished. At the time, I had wanted to record a full band playing the second part but didn’t get around to it. Last year while recording Untame the Tiger, I remembered the song and we decided to try it. David Christian played drums and Dennis Kane played bass, and we knocked it out pretty fast at 38 North Studio in Virginia.”

CHAMBER – “TEARS OF JOY”
Nashville metalcore band Chamber say they’ve already started writing a followup to last year’s A Love To Kill For, and that when they wrote “Tears of Joy,” it “stood out in a way that warranted being released on its own.” It’s as brutal and chaotic as you’d hope from this band.

COLD SPECKS – “WANDERING IN THE WILD”
Canadian singer/songwriter Cold Specks has shared a lovely new piano ballad, “Wandering in the Wild,” which follows her recent single “How It Feels,” which was her first new song in seven years.

PROTAGONIST – “FUNERAL FOR A FEELING” (KILL YOUR IDOLS COVER)
Florida punks Protagonist have put their spin on a classic from NY/LIHC vets Kill Your Idols.

SARAH MARY CHADWICK – “NOTHING WAS THE SAME, AFTER THE BAR BURNT DOWN”
Sarah Mary Chadwick describes her new single as “An allegorical story about the loss of a village’s local watering hole to a bewildering fire,” adding, “With respect to Tarkovsky, ‘Trouble Is A Lonesome Town’, Chekov, ‘Dogville’ and Flannery O’Connor.”

AVOID – “BURN”
AVOID have signed to UNFD, and their first single for the label is “Burn,” a nu metal/post-hardcore hybrid that vocalist Benny Schol calls “a song about the internal battles we face.”

HOMESHAKE – “LOOK INSIDE”
The expanded edition of Homeshake’s second album of 2024, Horsie, is out on November 8 via SHHOAMKEE, and he’s shared a new track from it, the woozy “Look Inside.”

NO CURE – “DON’T NEED YOUR HELP”
Birmingham, Alabama straightedge metalcore band No Cure have signed to SharpTone Records and they announced a new concept EP, I Hope I Die Here. Each song features a guest (or guests) that have “made an undeniable mark on Alabama hardcore over the years,” and this first single features Jesse Clark of Wielded Steel and Nick Chance of Beautiful Child of God. DENZEL CURRY – “STILL IN THE PAINT” (ft. BKTHERULA & LAZER DIM 700)
Denzel Curry has announced an extended “album version” of his King of the Mischievous South Vol. 2 project with five new songs, one of which heavily interpolates Waka Flocka Flame’s “Hard In Da Paint.” Read more here.

DEAN & BRITTA & SONIC BOOM – “SNOW IS FALLING IN MANHATAN” (PURPLE MOUNTAINS COVER)
Dean & Britta’s collaborative holiday album with Sonic Boom, A Peace of Us, is out November 17, and among the songs covered on it is “Snow is Falling in Manhattan,” one of the best songs on the late David Berman’s Purple Mountains album.

STELLA ROSE – “MS. 45”
Stella Rose, who is the daughter of Depeche Mode‘s Dave Gahan, will release a new EP, Hollybaby, on December 13 via KRO Records. Like Stella’s debut album, this was made with producer and KRO co-founder Yves Rothman (Blondshell, Eartheater, Bartees Strange), and recorded during the hottest week in Los Angeles this summer. “It was hot,” says Stella of recording this first single. “The vocals barely treading water. The mic a live wire. The words came out like poetry.”
