So many artists, so many songs, so little time. Each week we review a handful of new albums (of all genres), round up even more new music that we’d call “indie,” and talk about what metal is coming out. We post music news, track premieres, and more all day. We update a playlist weekly of some of our current favorite tracks. Here’s a daily roundup with a bunch of interesting, newly released songs in one place.
CINDY – “PROCESSION”
San Francisco slowcore band Cindy have announced new album Another Country which will be out May 1 via Tough Love. Say the band’s Karina Gill: “The title of this record, Another Country, refers to the James Baldwin novel of that name. The book has a kind of drama that makes sense to me. When I look around, the obvious explanations are not enough. The miasma of feelings and ideas that is supposed to account for it all, doesn’t. Baldwin washes past that to longings that begin to explain. Cindy songs come out of the x-rays my particular brain makes out of what I see and experience. What you hear on this record is the result of collaboration with the members of Cindy that transforms that shadowy thing into full color, fully fleshed. Each of them, in music, is sure-footed and unblinking, and making this record together felt like, yes, yes, you see what I mean.” First single is a very pretty waltz-time slow dance.

CYPRESS HILL – “WACHA TRUCHA” (FT. ALEMÁN)

RIP MAGIC – “SWORDS” (MAURICE FULTON REMIX)
RIP Magic’s first single for DFA is out today via DFA. “Swords” was produced by James Murphy and the 12″ features a remix by legendary house DJ/producer Maurice Fulton.

GIRL SCOUT – “CRUMBS”
Swedish band Girl Scout shared a final preview of their debut LP, Brink, which arrives later this month. About “Crumbs,” Emma Jansson says, “”We’ve met a lot of people on the road who work with or around music on some level. A lot of them don’t seem to like music, or people really. But they do like being on guest lists and paying for beers.”

JEHNNY BETH – “LOOK AT ME” (FEAT. MIKE PATTON)
Jehnny Beth says this collab with Mike Patton is “about the modern sellers of truth, who share their opinion online on how to ‘better oneself,’ giving an illusion of control — but all they really want is to be the center of attention.” This one is pretty different for both Jehnny Beth and Mike.

LEILA ABDUL-RAUF – “ANDROS INSIDIUM”
Leila Abdul-Rauf of Vasum announced a new solo album, Andros Insidium, due out April 17 via 20 Buck Spin, and shared the dark, eerie title track.

KATIE ALICE GREER – “UNGLUED”
Former Priests singer Katie Alice Greer has announced new solo album Perfect Woman Sound Machine, Vol. 1 which will be out April 3. Here’s the loud and noisy new single.

GRIAN CHATTEN (FONTAINES DC) – “ANGEL” (MASSIVE ATTACK COVER)
One of the highlights from the Peaky Blinders: The Immortal Man soundtrack is this cover of Massive Attack’s Angel sung by Fontaines D.C.’s Grian Chatten.

HUMAN ISSUE – “WALKING”
San Diego punk collective Human Issue (ft. members of Decent Criminal, A Global Threat, Adolescents, Violation, etc) have signed to Smartpunk and shared their first release for the label. About “Waking,” vocalist Hunter Martinez says, “The song ‘Waking’ is an ode to my friends back home. A group of kids from broken homes who bonded over drinking, stealing, fighting, and being reckless. Waking up later in life feeling the heaviness, visiting those memories, wishing I could change the past and feeling emotional about those who never made it out of that stage in life. Feeling guilt for the friends who had passed early on.”

SWEEPING PROMISES FT STELLA MOZGAWA & FRANK FIGUEROA – “SHE GOES SHE GOES” (THE CLEAN COVER)
Here’s a pretty cool team-up: Sweeping Promises with the great Kathleen Hanna, drummer extraordiare Stella Mozgawa an dFrank Figuero on this cover of The Clean’s kiwi pop classic. It’s from the Music For Iran – Volume 4 benefit comp.

MARY CHAPIN CARPENTER & THE MOUNTAIN GOATS – “PUT THE MESSAGE IN THE BOX” / “MIGRATIONS”
“I’ve looked up to Mary Chapin Carpenter for half my life,” John Darnielle says of The Mountain Goats’ new pair of covers with Carpenter. “Getting to know her over the past few years has been such a pure pleasure, so when she asked about doing a split single where we pick songs to cover and help each other out on the effort, what could we say but ‘hell yes’? Mary Chapin picked a World Party song I’ve always loved, and I picked out a Christine Fellows song I can barely sing without crying. But I did it! Matt arranged it! This was a great joy for us, and I hope you dig it!”

House producer Honey Dijon is releasing her new album, Nightlife, on April 17 via SOS, and the latest single, “Just Friends,” features Adi Oasis, Danielle Ponder and Suni MF.

These 1992 sessions at Albini’s Electrical Audio studio were the same songs Fugazi would re-record for 1993’s ‘In On The Killtaker.’

IRREVERSIBLE ENTANGLEMENTS – “JUNTOS VENCEMOS”

DAMAGED BUG (JOHN DWYER) – “OVER-EXPOSED”
With OSEES, you know pretty much what you’re going to get, but frontman John Dwyer explores other kinds of music as Damaged Bug. Take for example “OVER-EXPOSED” from new album ZUZAX. Dwyer is almost crooning here, as he lays down dulcet tones over a gently funky beat and smooth saxophone.
