So many artists, so many songs, so little time. Each week we review a handful of new albums (of all genres), round up even more new music that we’d call “indie,” and talk about what metal is coming out. We post music news, track premieres, and more all day. We update a playlist weekly of some of our current favorite tracks. Here’s a daily roundup with a bunch of interesting, newly released songs in one place.
PACO CATHCART – “BOTTLENECK BLUES”
Paco Cathcart, a true DIY NYC musician who has recorded over 50 albums under the name The Cradle, will release new album Down on Them on May 5 via Wharf Cat. First single “Bottleneck Blues” is instantly likeable with gorgeous guitar-work and harmonies.

DEAN WAREHAM – “YESTERDAY’S HERO”
Dean Wareham reunites with his Galaxie 500 producer, Kramer, for the upcoming That’s the Price of Loving Me, and “Yesterday’s Hero” is the third single. “I was trying to write a song about these times,” Wareham says, “leaders who talk peace but pursue war, and about political rebels who are vilified while alive but become (yesterday’s) heroes once they are safely in the grave.”

THE OPHELIAS – “SALOME”
The Ophelias’ new album Spring Grove arrives next month, and they’ve given us another early taste with the grungy “Salome.” “‘Salome’ loosely follows the biblical story of (you guessed it) Salome, who danced for King Herod at his birthday celebration and was told she could ask for anything in return,” the band’s Spencer Peppet, who also directed the video with Jo Shaffer, says. “She asked for the head of John the Baptist. While I personally have never facilitated someone’s beheading, I find the story and the way it has resonated with playwrights, filmmakers, and artists fascinating — a real depiction of ‘female biblical rage,’ as the TikTok girlies would say. The video is our campy camcorder take on that.”

RUNNNER – “SPACKLE”
Runnner (aka Run For Cover-signed artist Noah Weinman) returns with new single “Spackle.”

OVLOV – “THE WEEKEND” (DEMO)
Ovlov will release the demos from their album Buds on March 14 via Exploding In Sound, and the demo of “The Weekend” is streaming now.

TEEN MORTGAGE – “PARTY”
Garage punk duo Teen Mortgage offer up another taste of their debut album for Roadrunner.

GRIDIRON – “MASCOT”
Gridiron, the hardcore-scene rap metal band that includes members of Never Ending Game, Simulakra, and Scarab, have announced their sophomore album, Poetry From Pain. Read about new single “Mascot” here.

PURE BATHING CULTURE – “WILD FILLIES” & “CARDINAL”
Pure Bathing Culture call their two dreamy new tracks “mystic ballads for shadowy times,” saying, “They’re songs about love and fate in those moments where everything feels fragile and tender. They mirror each other and like night and day they belong together. ‘Wild Fillies’ is the night song. It’s a warning, but also an invitation. Beware of darkness, some curses can’t be broken if we let things go too far. Sometimes we have to tell someone how much they inspire us and invite them out of the shadows to sing in the moonlight. ‘Cardinal’ is the day song. It’s about the quiet magic of knowing when to move, listening to the signs around you, and waiting for the right moment. We recorded these songs late last summer with our friend Trevor Spencer in Woodinville, WA. We wanted the recordings to feel clean, warm, and evocative…like distant memories coming into focus.”

CHLOE MORIONDO – “ABYSS”
Chloe Moriondo’s new album oyster is out on March 28 via Public Consumption/Atlantic, and she’s given us another preview with “abyss,” which she says is “a song about reckless abandon, kissing strangers, hearing the call of the void and answering. I wrote it when I was tired of thinking, of processing feelings, and just wanted to party.”

Irish band M(h)aol have shared the first single from their Merge Records’ debut, Something Soft.
