So many artists, so many songs, so little time. Each week we review a handful of new albums (of all genres), round up even more new music that we’d call “indie,” and talk about what metal is coming out. We post music news, track premieres, and more all day. We update a playlist weekly of some of our current favorite tracks. Here’s a daily roundup with a bunch of interesting, newly released songs in one place.
ENVY – “WHITEOUT”
Envy got shoegazy and melodic on “Beyond the Raindrops,” the lead single off their upcoming album Eunoia, but the Japanese screamo veterans still have some chaotic fury up their sleeves for this new LP, as heard on new single “Whiteout.”

DAWN RICHARD & SPENCER ZAHN – “DIETS”
Dawn Richard and Spencer Zahn’s second collaborative album, Quiet in a World Full of Noise, is out next month, and they’ve shared another single from it, “Diets,” which pairs electronics and jazzy minimalism.

ECE ERA – “INNER FEELING”
Ece Era will release her debut album Bedside Tunes on October 25 via 2MR, and along with the announcement comes the moody electronic pop of “Inner Feeling.”

WILD PINK – “EATING THE EGG WHOLE”
“This song came together when I was watching the Michael Jordan doc on Netflix,” Wild Pink bandleader John Ross says. “I grew up an Orioles fan and the connection between Jordan and DMV sports just kinda happened on its own. It’s also kind of about how unrelaxing it is to watch TV and scroll on your phone. Super fun song to play live, def one of my favorites now.” It’s from their new album Dulling The Horns.

BABYFACE RAY – “WAVY NAVY UNIVERSITY” (ft. VEEZE)
Babyface Ray’s new album The Kid That Did arrives this Friday (9/13), and here’s one final single featuring fellow Detroit rapper Veeze.

SEA LEMON – “CRYSTALS” FT. BEN GIBBARD
“‘Crystals’ was written after I attempted ‘manifesting’ for a good portion of 2023 and found myself feeling really lackluster about the whole process,” Sea Lemon, aka Seattle singer-songwriter Natalie Lew, says of her new single. “I wrote most of the song after coming to this realization that ‘manifesting,’ or looking for signs in nature or everyday life, is mostly just a coping mechanism to get by day to day. When Ben came on and wrote his verse, I loved his added angle –rather than attempting lighter coping mechanisms, just submitting oneself to being upset and living in that darkness for a while can be a way to cope in and of itself. Ben’s contribution to this song is so exciting for me to say the least; as a huge Death Cab fan growing up, Ben’s songwriting has inspired me since I got interested in songwriting myself.”

CHRISTOPHER OWENS (EX-GIRLS) – “THIS IS MY GUITAR”
Former Girls singer/guitarist Christopher Owens will release solo album I Wanna Run Barefoot Through Your Hair in October and he’s just shared another song from it. “This is My Guitar” was produced by Ariel Rechtshaid (Vampire Weekend, Haim, Charli XCX, Caroline Polachek) and Unknown Mortal Orchestra’s Jacob Portrait (Alex G, Portugal The Man, Lil Yachty, Porches). HALF WAIF – “THE MUSEUM”
Half Waif’s new album See You At The Maypole is out in October, and she’s shared another track from it, “The Museum.” “There’s a warehouse at the top of Main Street in my tiny town that’s being turned into a museum for Shaker art,” she says. “It’s just down the road from my house, so I pass by it all the time. When I wrote ‘The Museum,’ I was thinking about how sort of beautifully delusional it is to create a museum at a time when the world is reaching the apex of climate crisis. This idea of preserving pieces of furniture in a pristine, white-walled space when outside, everything is collapsing. I’d also read a headline about how people were vacationing in Iceland at an active volcano, and that seemed to hold the same feeling for me as the museum-under-construction. Tourism at the brink of apocalypse. Meanwhile, my husband and I were talking about building a family, building a future, and I was grappling with the responsibility of what it means to bring a child into this kind of world—where people pose for selfies while the earth explodes.”

FIELD MUSIC – “THE WAITRESS OF ST LOUIS”
“The Waitress of St. Louis’ is an ode to a lost place of sanctuary, Louis’ cafe in Sunderland, set to synthesised riffs, bouncing drums, and wiry guitars,” says Field Music’s Peter Brewis. “Who or what is St. Louis’? The possessive apostrophe because it had been established by grandpa Louis over 100 years ago, and the unofficial canonisation because it was our place of congregation and a source of faith (in humanity as well as excellent coffee). We were privileged to have had a place like Louis’ in our lives but places like that rarely last as long as a lifetime – we see them disappear, leaving us with photographs and memories, looking for somewhere else to go.” New album Limits of Language is out October 11.

FOUR TET – “IN MY DREAMS” FT ELLIE GOULDING
Four Tet released his great new album Three earlier this year, and is now back with a new single, “In My Dreams.” It features Ellie Goulding, who he’s collaborated with in the past.

CASS MCCOMBS – SEED CAKE ON LEAP YEAR
Cass McCombs has released a new album, Seed Cake On Leap Year, which is out digitally today via Domino with vinyl and CD out November 8. It consists of previously unreleased music recorded in 1999 and 2000 at Papercuts’ Jason Quever‘s apartment while McCombs was living in Berkeley.
