So many artists, so many songs, so little time. Each week we review a handful of new albums (of all genres), round up even more new music that we’d call “indie,” and talk about what metal is coming out. We post music news, track premieres, and more all day. We update a playlist weekly of some of our current favorite tracks. Here’s a daily roundup with a bunch of interesting, newly released songs in one place.
JOAN AS POLICE WOMAN – “BACK AGAIN”
“Songs come through me like diary entries,” says Joan Wasser of this new single from her upcoming album Lemons, Limes & Orchids. “This entry fuses the optimism of a pop song with the words of a ballad, just like many of the great Motown songs did. What better angle to persuade someone to return?”

ALTIN GÜN – “GÖNÜL DAĞI”
Turkish/Dutch band Altin Gün have shared “Gönül Dağı,” which is a cover of a song by legendary Turkish songwriter Neşet Erta. This also marks the first recording with Altin Gün’s new five-piece lineup.

ED SCHRADER’S MUSIC BEAT – “ROMAN CANDLE”
Baltimore duo Ed Schrader’s Music Beat releases new album Orchestra Hits in September and here’s another song from it. “Roman Candle” is about the infamous Woodstock ’99 (which he snuck into). “It was a far cry from the Garden of Eden,” Schrader said. “That experience defined what I didn’t want to be a part of. It was the raw ugliness that had crept in to fill the void of a better future which never came. It is us until we don’t want it to be us.”

NICOLE MIGLIS – “LURE”
Nicole Miglis of Hundred Waters is releasing her anticipated debut solo album, Myopia, next month, and she’s shared another advance single, “Lure.” “The song plays on themes of allure, the shadow of desire, the push and pull, the power struggle of love, the games, the feeling of being reeled in and cast away like a fishing lure,” she says.

THE COURETTES – “CALIFORNIA” FT LA LA BROOKS
Danish-Brazilian band The Courettes will release new album The Soul Of… The Fabulous Courettes on September 27. “We always try to put ourselves into a zone of discomfort, which I think is where exciting things happen rather than just doing the same thing over again,” says bandleader Flavia Couri. “I mean, I know some bands can do that but we don’t see ourselves making the same album for the next 20 years. We thought ‘Back In Mono’ was our best album until this one!” The very catchy first single features former Crystals lead singer La La Brooks.

SHIGETO – THE PUNCH! (FEAT. KESSWA)
Detroit electronic artist Shigeto has announced new album Cherry Blossom Baby which will be out October 25 via Ghostly. The first single is one of a few songs on the album to feature Kesswa.

JANA MILA – “IN BETWEEN”
“Going back and forth between revisiting the past and trying to imagine the future… I could easily spend most of my time inside my head, thinking about life instead of actually living it,” Jana Mila says of “In Between” from her upcoming debut album Chameleon. “One Nashville afternoon, this little old idea of mine magically grew into ‘In Between,’ a song about trying to live in the moment and the challenges of finding your place in the world.”

SPORTS TEAM – “I’M IN LOVE (SUBARU)”
UK band Sports Team just announced their third album and the ’80s are also a clear influence this time, sonically, as can be heard on first single “I’m In Love (Subaru)” that recalls the era’s sultriest, saxxiest songs from Wham!, Tears for Fears and Roxy Music to Prefab Sprout and Haircut 100.

MY FICTIONS – “COLD STREAK”
Long-running Boston melodic hardcore band My Fictions have lots of EPs but only one album (released back in 2014), but they’ve just announced their second-ever full-length LP, Touch of Glass, due August 23 via 1126. Along with the announcement comes new single “Cold Streak,” which breathes new life into the dark, heavy, tuneful hardcore that the band is best known for.

ARMOR FOR SLEEP – “IN ANOTHER DREAM”
NJ emo-pop vets Armor For Sleep have released their first new song since 2022’s The Rain Museum (which was their first album in 15 years), and it finds them staying true to their classic 2000s-style melodrama.

OSO OSO – “THAT’S WHAT TIME DOES”
Oso Oso have detailed their upcoming album, Life Till Bones, and they’ve shared its second single “That’s What Time Does.” Read more here.

SHINER – “BROOKS” (REMIXED/REMASTERED)
Spacey post-hardcore vets Shiner are reissuing their classic, long-out-of-print ’90s/early 2000s on Spartan Records this August, and we’ve got exclusive color vinyl variants of all four, 1995’s Splay (opaque red), 1997’s Lula Divinia (sea blue), 2000’s Starless (milky clear), and 2001’s The Egg (transparent orange). Splay, which hasn’t been available on vinyl since the album’s original release in 1995, has been remixed from the original tapes by Shiner’s own Paul Malinowski and remastered by Mike Nolte, and today we premiered one of the remixed/remastered tracks, “Brooks.” Read more here.
