So many artists, so many songs, so little time. Each week we review a handful of new albums (of all genres), round up even more new music that we’d call “indie,” and talk about what metal is coming out. We post music news, track premieres, and more all day. We update a playlist weekly of some of our current favorite tracks. Here’s a daily roundup with a bunch of interesting, newly released songs in one place.
LYDIA LOVELESS – “RUNAWAY”
Alt-country singer Lydia Loveless has shared the second taste of Nothing’s Gonna Stand In My Way Again, and this one’s a lovely ballad that Lydia says is “about not wanting my relationship to end but knowing things weren’t ever going to improve.”

YOUNG MIKO – “WIGGY”
Rising Puerto Rican rapper Young Miko fuses her usual Latin rap vibes with throwback US-rap vibes on new single “Wiggy.” She calls it “a fun and nostalgic song that captures the essence of a generation and a piece of myself, having grown up around hip-hop and diverse influences, from both English and Latin backgrounds.”

THE SILVER – “THE VAGRANT SOUL”
The Silver (members of Horrendous and Crypt Sermon) have followed their great 2021 debut album Ward of Roses with a new single for the Decibel Flexi Series. Like the LP, it’s a uniquely genre-defying metal song, and it’s great stuff.

FEARING – “DESTROYER”
California gothy post-punks Fearing will release new LP Destroyer on September 29 via Profound Lore, and the dark ’80s vibes are strong on lead single “I Was So Alive.”

DAVE GAHAN – “MOTHER OF EARTH” (GUN CLUB COVER)
Depeche Mode’s Dave Gahan has shared a cover of The Gun Club’s “Mother of Earth,” which is his contribution to The Jeffrey Lee Pierce Sessions Project, and features Suzie Stapleton on piano and backing vocals, James Johnston on violin, Gavin Jay on bass and Ian White on drums.

ART FEYNMAN – “DESPERATELY FREE”
“I was thinking about the obsession with spiritual growth or with ‘curing’ death and the compensatory consequences that ensue as a result,” says Luke Temple of this musically breezy new Art Feynman single. “We can’t cheat nature of which we are one and the same, she’ll find balance eventually.” Be Good the Crazy Boys is out in November.

ROMY – “THE SEA”
Romy’s anticipated solo debut Mid Air is out in September, and the latest single is the club-ready “The Sea.” Mollie Mills, who directed the accompanying video, says, “Romy always evokes this feeling of euphoria — and with this track specifically touching on wrestles of romance — through a queer lens, it intuitively evoked something about this kind of intertwinement of bodies, both in intimacy and in club culture. I had loosely referenced Louise Bourgeois’ sculpture ‘The Couple’ which actualizes that soul-rupturing entanglement of falling in love — and this is what we wanted to feel in these seascape scenes. This light, blissful, euphoric togetherness that happens alongside these memory slices of euro-heaven. There’s a power that can live in the simplicity of these domestic moments between two queer bodies too — when I think back to the loves of summers past, the memories I have are always the small details, a billowing curtain or a lovers hair after they shower.”

LOL TOLHURST X BUDGIE X JACKNIFE LEE – “LOS ANGELES” FT JAMES MURPHY
Former Cure member Lol Tolhurst, former Siouxsie & The Banshees drummer Budgie, and producer Jacknife Lee have announced their collaborative debut album, Los Angeles, which will be out November 3. Their debut single is the album’s title track which features lead vocals from James Murphy. It’s a danceable, and as you might expect, gothy banger, heavy on the percussion.

ADULKT LIFE (HUGGY BEAR, MALE BONDING) – “FUTURE COPS”
Adulkt Life, the UK band featuring Chris Rowley (ex-Huggy Bear) and members of Male Bonding, will release their second album, There is No Desire, on October 6 via JABS/Our Voltage. The first single is “Future Cops,” a ripper that scratches that noisy, shouty itch.

BLUR – “THE RABBI” & “THE SWAN”
“The Rabbi” & “The Swan” were originally released on a bonus 7″ as part of the deluxe vinyl edition of Blur’s new album.

BROTHER MARSHALL AND THE CHOIR OF FIRE (STURGILL SIMPSON) – “ALL THE GOLD IN CALIFORNIA” (LARRY GATLIN COVER)
Sturgill Simpson is part of the cast of the current third season of HBO comedy The Righteous Gemstones, playing Marshall, a member of a snakehandlers militia group run by Steve Zahn. On the new episode, Simpson got a spotlight moment, singing a version of Larry Gatlin & The Gatlin Brothers Band‘s 1979 #1 smash, “All the Gold in California.” In the episode it’s an acapella rendition, buta full-band studio version of the song, credited to Brother Marshall and the Choir of Fire has hit streaming services.
