So many artists, so many songs, so little time. Each week we review a handful of new albums (of all genres), round up even more new music that we’d call “indie,” and talk about what metal is coming out. We post music news, track premieres, and more all day. We update a playlist weekly of some of our current favorite tracks. Here’s a daily roundup with a bunch of interesting, newly released songs in one place.
PRIMITIVE RING (CHARLES MOOTHART) – “HEADS WILL ROLL”
Primitive Ring, the band featuring Charles Moothart (Ty Segall’s band), will release their new self-titled album on May 15 via In the Red. “This was the last song to come together for the record,” the band says of “Heads Will Roll.” “The ‘missing piece’ to tie everything together. Both gentle and bellicose. Primal scream for a dying dream. What is there left to do in the wasteland but ride?”

JUMP SOURCE – “EMPTY BARS” (FT. BILLY WOODS) & “CLOSE” (FT. POISON GIRL FRIEND)
Montréal-based duo Jump Source, aka Patrick Holland and Francis Latreille, preview their debut album Fold, due out April 30 via NAFF Recordings, with a new double single. “Our new album Fold continues to reveal itself with two dream collaborations,” the say. “‘Empty Bars’ finds billy woods delivering a razor-sharp recollection of a night out over a low-slung, distortion-smudged house beat. On the flip, POiSON GiRL FRiEND lifts the melancholic production of ‘Close’ with her distilled vocal, wrapping up the record in a way that feels suspended in time.”

MODERN WOMAN – “DANIEL”
Modern Woman release Johnny’s Dreamworld on May 1 and here’s another preview. “I wrote this in North Wales a long time ago,” says bandleader Sophie Harris. “It’s a simple song. I hope it captures some sort of spirit-feeling. I was camping near a lake we used to go to all the time as a kid when I wrote it.”

THE FLATLINERS – “INNER PEACE”
Toronto punk vets The Flatliners announced a new album, Cold World, due out May 8 via Equal Vision/Dine Alone. They call new single “Inner Peace,” “A song about the dangers of indoctrination and their crossroads with capitalism.”

PSYCHOBUILDINGS – “THE BEACH”
It’s been a long time since we’ve heard from Psychobuildings (aka Peter LaBier) but he’s back with new album Tears Vol 1 on May 1. “I started work on this album in the first year of the pandemic, living in Brooklyn,” LaBier says. “This album is a reflection of and a testament to all of that time – to all of the grief, sadness, political turmoil, and growth both myself and many others experienced from 2020 until now. In addition, during this time, new connections were made. At various points I spent time living in LA and developed a community there. There are many contributions made by others to this record, some by old friends, some by new friends, some in New York, some in LA – all collectively processing uncertainty, fear, sadness, political tensions, and creatively finding joy in the struggle. I spent the last several years focusing again on guitar playing, on painting and drawing which has always occupied a large space in my life. Dance and movement has always been core to the music I make with this band – after struggling with a traumatic knee injury I was able to successfully rehabilitate it and learn to dance again.” This is the first single.

HUMAN ISSUE – “MEDICATE” (FT. MARIA XENO)
San Diego punks Human Issue, led by Hunter Martinez (Decent Criminal, Dwarves, Slaughterboys), announced a new album, In Flesh, due out June 5 via Smartpunk, and shared “Medicate,” which features FIXXER’s Maria Xeno. “I’ve watched, heard and witnessed so many people indulging in prescription pills/medications,” Martinez says. “Addiction and dependency shows its face and becomes a really hard reality. I’ve seen friends get really sick… This is about a few of them.”

VISIBLE CLOAKS – “THINKING / SHAPES” (FT. FÉLICIA ATKINSON, YOSHIO OJIMA & SATSUKI SHIBANO)
Ambient electronic duo Visible Cloaks shared a pair of new singles from their first album in nine years, Paradessence.

THE AFGHAN WHIGS – “HOUSE OF I”
Afghan Whigs are back with their first new music in nearly four years. Where 2022’s How Do You Burn? was on the pristine side, “House Of I” has that classic, gritty Afghan Whigs sound with that raw-throated Greg Dulli delivery soaked in swagger.

MUSE – “BE WITH YOU”
The first single from Muse’s 10th album is as over-the-top as you’d expect.
