So many artists, so many songs, so little time. Each week we review a handful of new albums (of all genres), round up even more new music that we’d call “indie,” and talk about what metal is coming out. SIERRA FERRELL & NIKKI LANE – “A LESSON IN LEAVIN” (DOTTIE WEST COVER)
After debuting it together at Stagecoach in April, Sierra Ferrell and Nikki Lane have shared the studio version of their cover of Dottie West’s “A Lesson in Leavin.”

GWAR – “TYRANT KING”
“There is no manual for being a good parent, but I am pretty sure your kids shouldn’t end up blowing dudes in a truck stop bathroom,” GWAR say of their new “Tyrant King” video. “My heart is broken! I tried to be a good mother. I guess they have to skin their own knees. Gor Gor, please come home. We love you.”

SOPHIE ELLIS-BEXTOR – “DOLCE VITA”
Sophie Ellis-Bextor’s eighth album Perimenopop is out in September, and the latest single is the disco-tinged “Dolce Vita.” She says it’s “inspired by the way you feel about yourself when you’re somewhere unfamiliar. You can reinvent yourself and no one knows your story. When I was writing it, I had this little subplot in my head of someone with a criminal past longing to flee and start again somewhere new! But it works too that it’s just the nostalgic pull of a foreign trip where you really got to escape for a little while.”

BENJAMIN GIBBARD – “ICHIRO’S THEME”
Benjamin Gibbard of Death Cab for Cutie and supergroup The Baseball Project (The Dream Syndicate’s Steve Wynn, R.E.M. members Peter Buck and Mike Mills, Scott McCaughey, and Linda Pitmon) are celebrating former Seatle Mariners player Ichiro Suzuki being inducted into the National Baseball Hall of Fame with a new 7″ of Ichiro-inspired track. “I wrote this song while I was living in LA and feeling homesick for Seattle,” Gibbard says. “It lived on a hard drive until years later when Ichiro was tragically traded from the Mariners to the loathsome New York Yankees. On the eve of Ichiro’s induction into the Baseball Hall Of Fame I’m thrilled to offer it up to the Baseball Gods b/w The Baseball Project’s Ichiro Goes to the Moon.”

SHERYL CROW AND THE REAL LOWDOWN – “SEE YOU ON THE OTHER SIDE”

MADONNA – VERONICA ELECTRONICA
Veronica Electronica, intended as a companion to Ray of Light, features newly edited versions of club remixes from Peter Rauhofer, William Orbit, Sasha, BT, and Victor Calderone, and the previously unreleased original demo of “Gone, Gone, Gone.”

YUMI ZOUMA – “CROSS MY HEART AND HOPE TO DIE”
Yumi Zouma call their new single “Cross My Heart and Hope to Die” “a darker song.” It’s one of a few new tracks they’ve released lately

AMAARAE – “GIRLIE-POP!”
Amaarae’s anticipated new album Black Star is out next month, and the latest single is “Girlie-Pop!,” which she says “started as a freestyle over an open guitar on a magical night in Brazil! I wanted to make a song that embodies the feeling of a kiss from your favorite person in the world. We all dream of finding that one person who sends us into the stars with just a smile & peck on the lips! The BLACK STAR album is all about fun and fantasy! I want ‘Girlie-Pop’ to be the soundtrack for when you sit and day dream about your crush.”

Jorja Smith followed her May single “The Way I Love You” with “With You,” which pairs her silky vocals with laid-back electro-pop.
