Swamp Dogg touring for ‘Blackgrass’ LP, playing NYC show w/ Yo La Tengo & screening of ‘Swamp Dogg Gets His Pool Painted’

Swamp Dogg recently released his new bluegrass album, Blackgrass: From West Virginia to 125th St, which came out via the late John Prine’s Oh Boy Records and features contributions from Justin Vernon, Jenny Lewis, Margo Price, Vernon Reid, The Cactus Blossoms, and more. (Stream it below.) He’ll also be doing a bit of touring for the album this summer, including stops in Dallas, Brooklyn, Nashville (Americana Fest) and Austin. All dates are listed below.

There are two Brooklyn shows. The first of them is for the afterparty of Rooftop Films’ screening of Swamp Dogg Gets His Pool Painted on July 11 at Industry City. The film was directed by Isaac Gale and Gayngs’ Ryan Olson (who produced Blackgrass). Here’s the synopsis: “Hidden away deep in the suburban San Fernando Valley, legendary cult musician Swamp Dogg, alongside housemates Moogstar and Guitar Shorty, has transformed his home into an artistic playground. Together, they navigate the tumultuous waves of the music industry, and forge a wonderfully bizarre and inspiring path across time and space.” More info on the film and the Rooftop Films screening is here and you can watch a teaser below.

The other Brooklyn show is at The Sultan Room on July 12 which promises “an appearance by Yo La Tengo” and is with DJ Jonathan Toubin. It’s sold out but you can join the waiting list.
