Q Lazzarus documentary ‘Goodbye Horses’ screening in NYC and LA this month, hitting streaming services in early 2025

Goodbye Horses: The Many Lives of Q Lazzarus, the new documentary about enigmatic NYC singer-songwriter Diane Luckey who recorded as Q Lazzarus (who died in 2022), has been in the works for a while now and is finally ready to be seen.

Folks in NYC can catch it screening in NYC at Roxy Cinema on Thursday, December 12 which would’ve been her 64th birthday.

Before that, the film makes its LA premiere at Brain Dead Studios on December 5.

Both the NYC and LA screenings feature Q&As with director Eva Aridjis Fuentes and Q’s son, James Luckey Lange.

Q Lazzarus is best known for “Goodbye Horses,” her only official release, which was used in two Jonathan Demme films, Married to the Mob, and most famously in Silence of the Lambs. (She also had a small role in Demme’s Philadelphia.) Here’s the official synopsis of the film: “An intimate journey through the life of singer Diane Luckey also known as Q Lazzarus, narrated through her own words, lyrics and music. The exceptionally talented but vastly underappreciated Q, who sang the cult hit song ‘Goodbye Horses,’ reveals the reason behind her mysterious 25-year-long disappearance and paves the way towards her re-emergence, with stories heartbreaking, hilarious and moving.’

If you can’t make the NYC screening, Goodbye Horses is coming to streaming in early 2025. Check out the film’s poster below.
