Amy Winehouse‘s life returns to the big screen after documentary Amy with a biopic with the working title Amy Winehouse. The Hollywood Reporter announced today that the film will be written and directed by Irish Academy Award nominee Kristen Sheridan (August Rush, In America) and produced by Alexandra Whitlin.
Swedish actress Noomi Rapace, of the foreign language The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo films, is in talks to star in the film as the late English singer. It will also not be the only influential singer in her filmography, as she’s also set to portray opera legend Maria Callas in Niko Caro’s upcoming Callas. The Winehouse film’s producers are currently in talks with Amy’s father, Mitch Winehouse, for music rights to Amy’s songs.
Mitch, who was unhappy with his portrayal in Asif Kapadia’s documentary Amy, is also planning to create his own documentary showing his side of the story. Stay tuned.
