Watch Fall Out Boy’s Patrick Stump join Chicago powerviolence band Wee

No matter how famous they get, the members of Fall Out Boy remain in touch with their hardcore roots. Drummer Andy Hurley is an active member of Racetraitor and SECT, both of whom released great albums in the past couple years, and singer Patrick Stump (wearing a Los Crudos shirt) just joined his back-in-action Chicago neighbors Weekend Nachos when the powerviolence greats played Seattle’s Vera Project on Friday (9/12). The appearance came just a couple weeks after Fall Out Boy finally put their 2005 cover of Gorilla Biscuits‘ “Start Today” on streaming services, as part of the upcoming 20th anniversary edition of From Under the Cork Tree. (The song was originally released as part of the Tony Hawk’s American Wasteland soundtrack, which featured several newer punk bands covering punk classics.) Perhaps even more surprising than Patrick revisiting his hardcore roots though is that he’s been proudly waving the ska flag recently and appeared on a song by ska band Catbite earlier this year.

In one last bit of related news, Patrick reunites with Motion City Soundtrack for their just-released single “Particle Physics” off their upcoming first album in 10 years, The Same Old Wasted Wonderful World, which drops this Friday (9/19) via Epitaph. Patrick previously sung on the band’s big hit “Everything Is Alright” off their 2005 album Commit This To Memory, which also appeared on our recent 2005 emo albums list. Hear that new song below too.
