Tomahawk, the supergroup of Mike Patton (Faith No More, Mr. Bungle), Duane Denison (The Jesus Lizard), John Stanier (Helmet, Battles), and Trevor Dunn (Mr. Bungle), are celebrating their 25th anniversary with their first tour in 13 years, joined by their old friends the Melvins. The run, which they’ve called the “A Huge Waste of Your Time and Money Tour,” stopped in NYC on Tuesday night (7/28) for a show at Brooklyn Steel.
Tomahawk stuck to their most recent album, 2021’s Tonic Immobility, for much of their set, but they also pulled out a few songs each off their 2001 self-titled, 2003’s Mit Gas, 2007’s Anonymous, and 2013’s Oddfellows. They also did a couple of covers: Duane Eddy’s “Stalkin’,” which they’ve done before, to begin their encore, and they closed out the night with Patton and Denison dueting on Jimmy Van Heusen’s “All The Way.” “We’ve never done this shit before,” Patton said to introduce that one.
