The Darkness have finally revealed full details of their forthcoming album Dreams on Toast. It’s out March 28 via Cooking Vinyl (preorder). It was produced by the band’s Dan Hawkins at his Hawkland Studios in Sussex, England, and includes singles “The Longest Kiss” and “I Hate Myself,” plus eight more whose titles include “Rock And Roll Party Cowboy,” “Walking Through Fire,” and “The Battle For Gadget Land.” What we’ve heard so far points to this being their best since their classic debut. Along with that comes the official video for glam-punk ripper “I Hate Myself,” which has frontman Justin Hawkins made up to be an aging star who has had a little too much work done. The video was shot in a single unbroken take by Simon Emmett and it’s both unnerving and funny. “I love working with Simon Emmett,” says Justin. “Everything we have collaborated on has turned out great so far. This is no exception. The concept is related to the self-loathing that the song itself lyrically explores. And I feel like the visual accompaniment has taken this song to the next level, and it was already my favourite Darkness song ever. I can’t wait for everybody to see it – it means a lot to me…and I’m here for the conversation. I love you all. I just hate myself.”
