NJ screamo band Massa Nera‘s third album The Emptiness of All Things comes out tomorrow (10/31), but we’re premiering a full stream that you can hear right now. The album covers so much musical ground, from metallic screamo chaos to noise to dance-punk to dark folk, and it finds the band directing their aggression towards the topics they’ve been writing about since forming the band nearly a decade ago: oppression, capitalism, environmental collapse. There’s one guest vocalist, Tony Castrati of Crippling Alcoholism, who appears on “Lavender.” And closing track “New Animism,” an eight-minute dirge fueled by acoustic guitar and clean vocals, is nothing short of epic.
“The Emptiness of All Things is our most complete, fully-realized attempt at expressing a musical vision that feels true to who we are and how we see the world,” the band tells us. “We hope people get something out of it.” They also said, when the first single came out: “This album was a true undertaking, exciting and torturous in equal measure. It was not cathartic in the least. We hope people feel better listening to it than we did
making it… not too much better, though.”
