Last summer, post-hardcore veterans Saosin celebrated their 20th anniversary across two nights at the Garden Amphitheatre in Garden Grove, CA. They’d been back with original singer Anthony Green (later of Circa Survive, The Sound of Animals Fighting, L.S. Dunes, and more), but at the first show, they surprised the crowd by bringing out Cove Reber–who replaced Anthony in 2004 and sang on the band’s two major label albums–for the first portion of the set. They played classic songs with Cove that the band hadn’t performed in years, and two covers: The Smashing Pumpkins‘ “Zero” and Blindside‘s “Pitiful.”
After that, bassist Chris Sorenson sang two songs (a Deftones cover and a song by pre-Saosin band Open Hand), and then Anthony came out to perform all of Saosin’s classic 2003 debut EP Translating the Name, plus two songs from their 2016 reunion album Along the Shadow and covers of Sunny Day Real Estate‘s “Seven,” At the Drive-In‘s “Pattern Against User,” and Björk’s “Unravel.” (At night two, they also did Jimmy Eat World’s “Lucky Denver Mint” with Chris singing and Further Seems Forever’s “The Moon Is Down” with Anthony.)
The first show is now being immortalized in (almost) its entirety for a live album, Live From The Garden Amphitheater, featuring the full first show, minus the Chris-sung songs and the Björk cover. It comes out July 19 via Born Losers Records, and we’ve got an exclusive opaque black & white A-side/B-side 2LP vinyl variant, limited to 200. Pre-order yours now in the BV shop. Along with the announcement comes two tracks and pro-shot live videos of each one, “Lost Symphonies” with Anthony and “Sleepers” with Cove. They look and sound awesome, as you can see and hear for yourself below.
Saosin have some festival appearances coming up this year, including Furnace Fest, Louder Than Life, Aftershock, So What?, and When We Were Young. They’re performing the self-titled in full with Cove at the latter two.
