Fugitive–the Texas metal band featuring Power Trip guitarist Blake Ibanez, Skourge vocalist Seth Gilmore, and members of Creeping Death, Impalers, and more–headlined Mohawk in Austin last night (12/1/23). Fugitive have already gained a pretty big following, and so it wasn’t even the first time Fugitive headlined the Mohawk, but Friday’s Resound-presented show was extra packed thanks in part to a little “with special guest” written on the flyer. “Less than 100 tickets left, trust us you don’t want to miss this show.” the venue wrote on Instagram earlier that day.
Fugitive’s wild headlining set, with openers Dresscode and Ninth Circle, was surely worth the price of admission, but excitement grew throughout the crowd after Fugitive’s set. Blake was still on stage, and it became clear that people were in fact about to witness the return of Power Trip!
Power Trip vocalist Riley Gale died on August 24, 2020, and that was the end of Power Trip as as we know it. There were rumors, and various members have continued in other projects, but “Power Trip” — Blake Ibanez, Nick Stewart, Chris Whetzel, and Chris Ulsh — was not seen again until they appeared on stage last night with Seth Gilmore filling in on vocals for a four-song set in tribute to Riley whose name Blake encouraged the crowd to chant between songs . They played “Soul Sacrifice,” “Executioner’s Tax,” “Hornet’s Nest,” and “Manifest Decimation” as you can see in the picture of the setlist and some videos below…
