The impossible-to-pigeonhole heavy band Portrayal of Guilt have announced a new album, …Beginning of the End, due April 24 via Run For Cover (pre-order). It was recorded and mixed by Phillip Odom and mastered by Will Yip, and it features a guest appearance on one song by Houston rapper Slim Guerilla. You’ll have to wait to hear that one, but even the songs that Portrayal of Guilt have released so far find them going in unexpected directions.
“Ecstasy,” which comes with a video directed by Craig Murray, finds the band moving into industrial territory and mixing their usual vicious shrieks with some glistening clean vocals, while “Human Terror” has an explosive climax that could pass for nu metal. Portrayal of Guilt have never sounded like this before, and yet somehow this feels like a total natural place for them to go. Both songs are killer, and you can hear them below.
Portrayal of Guilt have also announced a tour with their industrial-tinged Austin neighbors Street Sects–a very good pairing with these new songs–and the hometown Austin date of their tour also has screamo legends pageninetynine on the bill. Other shows have Taraneh, Halloween, and The Infinity Ring, varying by date.
NYC gets a stop on June 2 at LPR, where they’ll be playing in the round with Street Sects and The Infinity Ring. Tickets go on sale Friday (3/6) at 10 AM local time. All dates are listed below.
