Chicago band Porcupine have been making a chaotic blend of metal and hardcore that we’ve compared to the likes of Converge and Portrayal of Guilt across a series of EPs, splits, demos, and singles that date back to 2017, and now they’ve finally announced their debut album, All Is Vapor, due June 7 via New Morality Zine (pre-order). It features recent single “Holy Cowards,” as well as the just-released title track and “Euphrosyne.” All three current singles are intense, towering, unpredictable songs, and if you’re into heavy music of any kind, I can’t recommend this enough. “I’ve always associated the Chicago music scene as people doing their own thing and not being worried about trends or genres,” guitarist Joey Hernandez said via press release. “We’ve always looked up to how unique our scene is, especially bands like Harm’s Way, The Smashing Pumpkins, Weekend Nachos, Articles of Faith, etc.”
About the album’s lyrical content, vocalist Dawson Kiser adds, “I am hesitant to say there is a definitive theme or message to the album. I am much more interested in the way in which listeners relate to or interpret them. I am not saying the lyrics are inherently subjective – but in some sense, they stand on their own.”
