Finally, Pallbearer‘s long-awaited new album has been announced! It’s called Mind Burns Alive and due May 17 via Nuclear Blast (pre-order). They had initially planned to record it in 2020, then tried again in 2022, and finally in 2023 they were able to make it happen. By then, the band members were all living near each other in Little Rock for the first time in nine years, and they convened to self-produced Mind Burns Alive at their own new studio, Idlewild Audio, as well as at Fellowship Hall Sound. Bassist/vocalist Joseph D. Rowland says, “It’s ironic given that the album is largely centered around isolation, but it felt like it summoned us into being back together again in one town, after so long apart.”
About the album, vocalist/guitarist Brett Campbell adds, “These songs are a deeper exploration of dynamics and sonic color than anything we have done up to this point. I’m of the belief that true heaviness comes from emotional weight, and sometimes sheer bludgeoning isn’t the right approach to getting a feeling across.”
On that note, lead single “Where the Light Fades” is one of Pallbearer’s least traditionally metal-sounding songs yet. It finds them more firmly in prog rock territory, while still sounding distinctly like Pallbearer. Check out the song and its Dan Almasy-directed video below.
Pallbearer have also announced a lengthy headlining tour behind the new album, with support from Inter Arma, REZN, Rwake, and SubRosa offshoot The Keening, varying by date. Tickets go on sale Friday (3/22) at 10 AM local.
NYC gets a show on June 20 at Music Hall of Williamsburg, and that one’s with REZN and The Keening. All dates are listed below.
