Majority Rule offshoot NØ MAN have announced their third album, Glitter and Spit, due March 29 via Iodine Recordings (pre-order). The album was recorded and mixed by the band’s own Matthew Michel, and though it was written before the attacks in Palestine hit their recent tipping point, vocalist Maha Shami–the daughter of Palestinian refugees–addresses the longstanding violence against Palestine with multiple songs on this album. “From school teachers and classmates telling her Palestine doesn’t exist, to being humiliated by soldiers at checkpoints when she visited her family, these many moments fuel the album’s lifeblood, coalescing on ‘Can’t Kill Us All,'” a press release notes.
The first single is the title track, an absolute ripper of a screamo/hardcore song. The band builds up a driving, suspenseful backdrop, and Maha’s screams are full of real human emotion, without an ounce of posturing. Maha says, “Glitter and Spit is about the distortion of one’s lived experience and existence, dealing with people imposing a version of you that meets the expectations of their fantasy. These attempts to shape and define your life often romanticize the idea of an angry woman until you disrupt their status quo.”
NØ MAN have two upcoming shows supporting Strike Anywhere, alongside melodic hardcore torch-carriers Praise. Those happen at Richmond Music Hall on May 3 and Brooklyn’s Saint Vitus on May 4.
