Louder Than Life cancels day 2, Slayer included, due to severe weather

Louisville, KY festival Louder Than Life cancelled its scheduled second day on Friday (9/27) as the remnants of Hurricane Helene battered the area. The day’s lineup was to have included Slayer (playing their second reunion set after Riot Fest last weekend), Til Lindemann, Anthrax, Clutch, Tom Morello, Show Me The Body, Set It Off, Fugitive, Holy Fawn, Gel, Ho99o9, and more.

The festival had initially delayed doors on Friday, writing, “We’re committed to not only delivering the best festival experience, but also the safest one for every fan, artist, and crew member. Due to the weather, we’re delaying the opening of festival doors to ensure everyone’s safety. Parking gates are currently closed. Rest assured, we’re keeping a close eye on the situation and will provide updates as soon as we can. Parking, doors and set times will be adjusted, and we are committed to rockin with you as soon as it’s safe. Thank you for your understanding and patience as we work to create an unforgettable experience for everyone. Stay tuned for more.”

They also issued a camping update on Friday morning which read:

Loudmouth Campers, we appreciate everyone working so hard to prepare your campsites and help each other last night to keep the community safe.

The National Weather Service has issued a high wind warning for our area and winds and rain are forecasted to continue through this morning and afternoon. Due to the weather, we’re delaying the opening of festival doors to ensure everyone’s safety. We encourage you to stay diligent and ready. Here are a few reminders to ensure your campsites remain safe for yourself and fellow Loudmouth campers.

Campsite Safety Reminders
– Continue to keep temporary pop-up tents (like 10×10 shade structures) down and packed away.
– Chairs, tables, and any flyaways should remain tethered down and secure.
– Tents are NOT safe shelter locations. If we go into a code RED, please seek shelter in your RV/vehicle or inside KEC Freedom Hall.

In another update, organizers said they were “pushing to make the show happen tonight with doors tentatively opening between 6:00 PM and 7:00 PM,” but a shelter in place warning was issued later before that could happen, and eventually they were forced to cancel Friday entirely. “Louder family, we’re heartbroken to share this, but the weather just isn’t in our favor today,” their statement read. “We’ve been working closely with our meteorologists and local authorities, holding on to hope that we could open doors, but the continuous wind gusts simply make it impossible for us to proceed safely.”

Throughout the day there were moments where it seemed possible, but in the end, Mother Nature won this round.

We know how disappointing this is — it’s gut-wrenching for us too. But your safety, along with the safety of our artists and crew, will always be our number one priority.

The support and patience you showed us today has been nothing short of incredible. We fully intend to rock out with you tomorrow, check back in the morning for updates.

The festival also announced that single-day passholders would be able to attend either today (9/28) or Sunday, and that those who purchased parking on Friday would receive a $20 parking discount for today or Sunday.
